Group Tour Visit Information

We look forward to welcoming you and your group to the Colorado School of Mines! In order to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all, please review the following information. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Jerilin Brewer, Visit Coordinator, 303.273.3226.

Group Visit Guidelines

  • We require at least two weeks advance registration for group visits.
     
  • Group organizers must give at least two business days' notice when cancelling or rescheduling a visit.  Colorado School of Mines reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a visit due to inclement weather in advance and up to the morning of the scheduled tour time.
     
  • Given demand for group visits on our campus, our group tours are intended for schools/students with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) focus.
     
  • Groups must be from a middle school, high school, or community college.
     
  • Group tours are offered on Thursdays only (excluding holidays, the first week of the semester, the week of final exams, and University closures). At this time, we cannot make exceptions due to capacity and other campus tours that we coordinate.
    • High school and college-aged students will begin their visit with an Admissions presentation at 12:30pm.  The guided walking tour will follow at 1:00pm.
    • Middle school-aged students will receive the campus tour only, which will begin at 1:00pm. Tour length is one hour.  It is a walking tour, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes!
       
  • The largest group size that we can accommodate is 28 total participants (this number must include chaperones).Thank you for not exceeding 28 participants.
    • All groups are required to provide at least one chaperone for every ten students in attendance.
       
  • Groups traveling to campus should plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to their scheduled visit time. Late arrival may result in a modified/shortened campus tour or information session, or the cancellation of the campus tour and/or other previously scheduled activities as current Mines students lead the campus tours and are only available during the arranged tour time.
     
  • Requesting institution(s) or chaperone(s) assume all liability for their students while on the Colorado School of Mines campus. Mines will not be held liable for any lost or stolen goods, accidents, or injuries. In the event that a tour group or member is disruptive or rude, the tour guides and any member of the Admissions Office staff reserves the right to end the tour or visit at any time, and the group may not be welcomed back for future visits.
     
  • Groups that bring lunch/food to campus must plan to picnic outside.  Personal and/or outside food may not be taken into campus eating venues or campus buildings with designated food service contracts, due to health code policy that regulates those facilities.  If inclement weather dictates need for an indoor designated lunch area, the group coordinator should contact Lisa Goberis (lgoberis@mines.edu or 303-273-3230) to make special arrangements to reserve an appropriate location. Please plan ahead, as alternate locations are limited.  Groups wishing to make arrangements to purchase lunch on campus must contact the dining facility directly (303-273-3358) at least one week prior to the visit date.  The Admissions Office does not assume any liability in the arrangements for or purchase of food on campus.  
     
  • All other scheduled events must be coordinated directly between the group planner and the various department(s).  The Admissions Office is not responsible for organizing any outside meetings or activities.
     
  • If any special requests or an accommodation for a disability is needed in order to participate in this program, the organizer should contact the Office of Admissions at 303-273-3226 or jgraser@mines.edu at least one week prior to the tour to arrange for the accommodation.
     

Group Parking
In preparation for your visit, please check out our interactive campus map. A printable campus map can be found herePDF versionText only version. Buses are required to park in Lot Q and large vans can park in lot CT or FF.

  • At pay station, press any button on right side of screen. Select the amount of time needed.
  • It will then prompt you to enter your license plate #.
  • After entering your license plate #, press "D" and then the space bar (or the # sign) on the keypad.
  • Press the space bar on the keypad below the screen and a box will appear.
  • Enter your guest parking code “3124052” and press “D” on right side of screen.
  • Lift the handle and collect meter receipt.
  • Display receipt face up on the dash of your vehicle.

On-Campus Lunch: Groups can enjoy lunch at Mines Market, The Periodic Table, Subway and Einstein Brothers Bagels. If your group would like to dine in the Mines Market, please call ahead with group numbers, 303.273.3358.
