Girl Scout Badge Day (for girls)
Every year,
during the first part of February, the Colorado School of Mines
student section of the Society of Women Engineers hosts over
150 Denver-area Girl Scouts for Girl Scout Badge Day (GSBD).
This day is designed to introduce young girls (4th through 6th
grade) using hands-on activities to the opportunities that are
available to them in the fields of math, science, and engineering.
Each girl earns one Girl Scout badge that focuses on a particular
field, such as Engineering Everything, Phantastic Physics, Rocks
Rock, and Women in the Military.
In addition to earning a badge,
the girls also participate in making asphalt cookies, taking
a tour of the Colorado School of Mines campus, and playing science
and engineering games.
