MINES MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT CHADRON STATE, 52-50 CHADRON, Neb. - Chadron State's Darnell Williams drove baseline and hit a short shot off the glass with one second left to lift the Eagles to a 52-50 victory over Colorado School of Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Thursday night in Armstrong Building. Chadron State appeared to be in complete control as it led 45-28 with four minutes to play, but the Orediggers finally got untracked and tallied 19 of the next 22 points to cut the lead to 48-47 with 47 seconds to play. Mines sank five straight free throws and also had an old-fashioned three-point play in a 41-second stretch around the two-minute mark. With 32 seconds left, Williams made one of two free throws. He missed the second shot, but the Eagles Elijah Collins grabbed the rebound. Seven seconds later, CSCs Dave Camadini missed the first of his two free shots, but hit the second to give the Eagles a 50-47 lead. However, CSM junior guard Travis Test (Pierce, Neb./Northeast CC) hit a three-pointer with 14 seconds to play to knot the game at 50-50, but Williams provided the Eagles with his last second heroics for the win. CSM (13-5, 7-3 RMAC), which shot just 25 percent (16-63) from the floor, received 13 points and four steals from junior guard Kevin Wagstaff (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart). Senior forward Farris Broussard (San Jose, Calif./Independence) added 12 points and six boards, while senior guard Stephen Bahl (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) added 11 points and seven rebounds. Williams led the Eagles (13-5, 7-3 RMAC) with 12 points and eight rebounds. Mines is slated to return to action Saturday night when it travels to Fort Hays State for an 8:00 pm game.
