MINES MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS BETHANY, 78-54 GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines senior guard Stephen Bahl (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield) scored a game-high 32 points to help lead the Orediggers to a 78-54 nonconference victory over Bethany College Monday night in Volk Gymnasium. Mines (9-3, 3-1 RMAC) led 10-9 with 15 minutes to play in the first half, but would outscore the Swedes, 14-4 over the next four minutes of action to claim a 15 point advantage midway through the first half. The Orediggers led by 17 (38-21) at the break. CSM pushed its lead to 21 (49-28) points four minutes into the second half on a jumper from junior guard Kevin Wagstaff (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart) and Bethany would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the game. In addition to his 32 points, Bahl posted four rebounds and two assists. Wagstaff added 16 points, four rebounds and two assists, while sophomore forward Davey Iverson (Winnett, Mont./Winnett) chipped in 11 points and eight boards off the bench. Senior forward Farris Broussard (San Jose, Calif./Independence) just missed a double-double as he tallied nine points, a game-best eight rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots. Bethany (8-4) was led by Ronny Mitchell's 16 point effort as he was the lone Swede to hit double figures. Mines is slated to return to action Friday night when it hosts CU-Colorado Springs at 8:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
