MINES WOMEN'S TOPS FORT LEWIS, 63-62, IN OVERTIME

DURANGO, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines senior guard Heather Hoops (Golden, Colo./Wheat Ridge) hit a jumper with nine seconds to play in overtime to give the Orediggers a 63-62 victory over Fort Lewis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night at Whalen Gymnasium.

The Orediggers, who led by as many as 11 points in the first half and by six points (34-28) at halftime, trailed 51-45 with 6:12 to play in the game. However, CSM would go on to outscore the Skyhawks, 10-4, over the final six minutes of play and knotted the game at 55-55 with 1:41 to play on a jumper from Hoops. Those were the final points of regulation.

In overtime, CSM took a 59-57 lead with 2:29 to play, but Skyhawk senior forward Amy Mohr converted two free throws and a three-point play on back-to-back possessions to give FLC a 62-59 lead with 1:23 to play. Hoops then connected on two free throws with 34 seconds to play and then the game-winner with nine seconds left.

Mines (5-2, 3-0 RMAC) placed all five starters in double figures led by senior guard Kristin Horkey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) who totaled 15 points and seven rebounds. Hoops added 12 points and six assists, while junior center Ashley Gronewoller (Pagosa Springs, Colo./Pagosa Springs) chipped in 12 markers and six boards.

Senior guard Kim Kilmer (Stoneham, Colo./Prairie) added 10 points and seven rebounds and senior forward Gina Cornelio (Tucson, Ariz./Sal Pointe) registered 10 points and a game-best eight boards.

Mohr led all scorers with 27 points, while Jamie Pratt contributed 16 points and five rebounds.

The Orediggers will return to action Monday when they play at Adams State. Tipoff is slated for 5:00 pm at Plachy Hall.
