MINES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VICTORIOUS IN SEASON OPENER,
88-38, AT JOHNSON AND WALES

DENVER, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines sophomore forward Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranath) tallied her first career double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Orediggers cruised to an 88-38 victory at Johnson and Wales in the 2004-05 season opener for CSM.

Mines (1-0), which led 44-10 at halftime, received 13 points and eight rebounds from junior center Ashley Gronewoller (Pagosa Springs, Colo./Pagosa Springs), while freshman forward Liz Jeffries (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) poured in 15 points and notched seven steals in her first collegiate game.

J&W (0-4) was led by Kristen Solano who posted a game-best 21 points, including 7-of-9 from three point range.

CSM is slated to return to action two times this weekend. On Friday, it will play host to Wayne State at 6:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium and on Saturday, Mines will host Northern State at 7:00 pm. NSU is the alma mater and where Mines Head Coach Paula Krueger coached before coming to Golden last season.
