MINES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS BEMIDJI STATE, 68-61

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team closed the first half on a 10-0 run over the final four minutes to take a 29-28 lead at the break and held on for a 68-61 win over Bemidji State in nonconference action Wednesday night in Volk Gymnasium.

The Beavers (2-4) took a 28-19 lead with 4:14 to play on three consecutive three-pointers. But CSM would tally the next 10 points to close out the half.

Mines (2-2) then broke open a 47-47 tie with 8:18 to play in the game by going on a 12-5 run over the next four minutes of action. Senior guard Kristin Horkey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) and junior center Ashley Gronewoller (Pagosa Springs, Colo./Pagosa Springs) keyed the run with four points each.

Gronewoller led the Orediggers with 14 points and game-best 12 boards. Horkey added 14 points and four boards, while sophomore forward Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha) and senior guard Kim Kilmer (Stoneham, Colo./Praiie) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds apiece.

Maggie Gernbacher was the lone Beaver to score in double figures as she poured in a game-high 28 points, including 7-of-9 from three-point land.

Mines will return to action on Dec. 10 when it hosts Western State at 6:00 pm in Volk Gym. It will be the RMAC opener for CSM.
