MINES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS FORT HAYS STATE, 68-56

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team outscored Fort Hays State, 41-22, in the second half and claimed a 68-56 win over the Tigers in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night in Volk Gymnasium.

CSM, which trailed at halftime (34-27), opened the first 10 minutes of the second stanza on a 20-7 run to claim a six point lead (47-41) midway through the half and extended the lead to double figures (59-49) with 3:13 to play on two free throws from senior guard Gina Corelio (Tucson, Ariz./Sal Pointe).

Mines (15-7, 9-5 RMAC) was led by senior forward Kristin Horkey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) who notched 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Cornelio added 17 points and four rebounds, while senior guard Kim Kilmer (Stoneham, Colo./Praire) chipped in 15 points and five rebounds and senior guard Heather Hoops (Golden, Colo./Wheat Ridge) added six points, five rebounds and tied a career-high with nine assists.

FHSU (17-5, 10-4 RMAC) was led by Crystal Harden who posted a game-high 18 points, while Katie Deighton was the only other Tiger to reach double figures with 13 markers.

CSM will return to action Saturday night when it hosts Chadron State at 6:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.
