MINES WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS UPPER IOWA, 67-40

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team won its school-record eighth straight game with a 67-40 defeat of Upper Iowa in nonconference action Monday afternoon in Volk Gymnasium.

UIU (4-10) scored the first three points of the game, but the Orediggers would go on a 15-0 run to take a 15-3 lead with 12:09 to play in the first half en route to a 30-22 halftime lead. The Peacocks would slice the lead to seven points (40-33) with 14:47 to play in the game, but Mines would go on a 23-4 run over the next 11 minutes of play to take control of the game.

CSM (9-2, 4-0 RMAC) sophomore forward Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha) scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead her squad. Senior guard Kristin Horkey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) added 16 points, while junior center Ashely Gronewoller (Pagosa Springs, Colo./Pagosa Springs) chipped in 10 points and five boards and sophomore guard Lindsay Orchard (Salt Lake City, Utah/Highland) finished with four points, four boards and seven assists.

Upper Iowa was led by nine points and four rebounds from Krystal Sherman.

Mines returns to action Friday night when it hosts CU-Colorado Springs at 6:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.
