THE HEAD COACH
Vic Doperalski is in his tenth season as the women’s basketball coach at Colorado School of Mines, and his 26th year overall as a basketball coach. During his nine years at the helm for the Orediggers, Doperalski has accumulated a 86-158 record, guiding the team to the three winningest seasons in CSM history. Last season, Doperalski led CSM to an overall record of 16-11, including a 10-9 mark in the RMAC. In addition, the Orediggers racked up 11 wins in both the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons.

WELCOME BACK: Sophomore guard Katie Gaudutis, who played a majority of last season with an injured knee, returned to form over the weekend in Oakland, Calif. as she led the squad in scoring both games. In a 77-62 loss to Oregon Tech in the consolation round, Gaudutis poured in a career high 13 points. She also totaled seven steals, four rebounds and three assists in the two losses.

AN ANGEL AMONG US: Freshman forward Heather Angel had quite an opening to her career as an Oredigger over the weekend. The newcomer averaged 7.5 points and a team-best seven boards during the Holy Names Shootout. Angel scored 12 points in the loss to Oregon Tech and also grabbed seven rebounds in each of the two games.

DROPPIN DIMES: Sophomore guard Heather Hoops was busy dishing out the ball on the Oredigger’s trip to California. The Littleton, Colo., native dropped 10 dimes in the two games, including seven in the loss to Oregon Tech.

BLOCK PARTY: Mines averaged four blocks per game on its two game trip. Freshman forward Heather Angel and freshman center Ashley Gronewoller each tallied two blocked shots in Oakland.

SPEAKING OF ASHLEY: Freshman center Ashley Gronewoller had a solid debut to her Oredigger career. The 6-foot-3 center came off the bench in both games and averaged 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in the two games and scored 12 points in the loss to Oregon Tech.

NOT VERY CHARITABLE: In the two game tournament over the weekend, the Orediggers went to the free throw line 36 times. However, it was not very chairtable to them as the team connected on just 13 of the 36 attempts for 36 percent.

ON THE FLIP SIDE: Despite having woes at the free throw line over the weekend, CSM did manage to shoot 33 percent from beyond the three point line as they hit 9-of-27 attempts. Junior guard Jessie Neumiller connected on 4-of-8 attempts from behind the arc.

SCOUTING THE WEEK’S COMPETITION: Grandview enters the week at 5-2 overall. The Vikings are led by Jessica Maston who averages 16.8 points and 7.2 boards per game.

Northern Colorado comes into the week at 1-0 after defeating Adams State, 77-54, on Saturday. Missy Borell scored 26 points and grabbed 11 boards and tallied five steals, three blocks and three assists, while Amber Elliott tallied 12 points and five rebounds in the win. UNC shot 53 percent from the field, including 39 percent from three point range.

Lynn is 0-2 on the season after losing in overtime at Nova Southeastern, 63-62, and to St. Rose, 50-48. Alasha Hodges averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 boards in the two losses, while Lisa Gangel posted 9.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
