head womens basketball coach at Colorado School of Mines. Last
season, Krueger led CSM to its best season in program history as the
team tallied a 19-9 overall record, including 13-6 in the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference. In addition, she guided the squad to the RMAC
Tournament for the second straight year where the fifth-seeded Orediggers
lost in the opening round to fourth-seeded Fort Hays State. A graduate
of Northern State, Krueger was a standout on the basketball court
as she earned national tournament MVP honors as a senior during Northerns
national championship campaign in 1993-94. In addition, Krueger was
also a team captain and all-district performer on NSUs softball
team. She earned NSUs prestigious Hildred Wolfe Student Athlete
of the Year award as a senior. Following her successful athletic career,
Krueger served as a graduate assistant at Northern State from 1995-96
for womens basketball and softball while finishing up her studies.
She received her bachelors in education from Northern in 1995
and her masters in teaching in 1996. After graduation, Krueger
served as the assistant womens basketball coach and head softball
coach at Northern State. During her six years as assistant at
NSU, she helped lead her squad to a 114-59 mark. No. Probable Starters Ht. Yr. Hometown PPG RPG APG No. Off the Bench Ht. Yr. Hometown PPG RPG APG MINES PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON RMAC POLL: The Colorado School of Mines womens basketball team was picked fifth out of seven teams in the Preseason RMAC East Division Poll. Regis University was picked to win the division as it received 8 first place votes and 18 points. Metro State was picked second with 23 points, while Fort Hays State was third with 43 points. Nebraska-Kearney (44 points), Mines (58), Chadron State (72) and Colorado Christian (85) rounded out the poll. LAST TIME OUT (12/10/05): The Colorado School of Mines womens basketball team started conference play this past weekend, December 9th and 10th and came away with a split decision. The Orediggers lost to Mesa State Friday night 79-59. Angela Pearson led the way with 16 points while Iva Tomova added 15. Saturday, the Orediggers captured a victory over Western State with a score 63-43. Ashley Gronewoller led the way with a career high 30 points and added a season high of 14 rebounds. LAST TIME vs. FORT LEWIS: Last season the Orediggers came away with a 63-62 win over Fort Lewis on the road. The game was sent into overtime after a 55-55 tie after regulation. All five of Mines starters ended in double figures against the Skyhawks. Gronewoller, the lone returner this year ended with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Fort Lewis had three in double figures, Amie Moulton (12) and Jamie Pratt (16) return this year. LAST TIME vs. ADAMS STATE: Mines came away with a 56-54 victory over Adams State last season. Gronewoller led the team with 14 points while Angela Pearson had 11. Adams only returns one of their starters from last year, Erica Marquez.
GRONEWOLLER THIS SEASON: This season, Gronewoller is averaging 15.9 points and 8.7 rebounds. She led Mines this past weekend against Western State with a career high, 30 points and a season high of 14 rebounds. Currently, Gronewoller ranks fifth in the RMAC with a 15.9 average for points per game and is third in rebounding (8.7) GRONEWOLLER RECORDS: Gronewoller is also closing in on three Colorado School of Mines records. She currently ranks fourth with career points with 1,127, third in career rebounds with 684 and fourth in career field goals made with 450.
OUT OF THIS COUNTRY: Iva Tomova is originally from Varna, Bulgaria and transfered to Mines from Northeastern Junior College, after a successful career at her junior college, Tomova leads the team with 22 assists and is second on the team with 13.3 points per game which puts her 13th in the RMAC. She also has scored in double figures in six of the seven games the Orediggers have played this season. BE LIKE EICK: After sitting out last season due to injury, Sara Eickelman will be Mines starting point guard this season. Eickelman started the season against Johnson and Wales ending with seven points and five assists and led Mines against Northern State with 14 points. She is second on the team with 21 assists.
LETS GET 60: The number 60 appears to be the good luck charm for the womens basketball team. In the past three seasons, Mines is 25-3 when it scores at least 60 points. CSM only lost once last season when it scored at least 60 points and it was on February 18, 2005 against Nebraska Kearney. Mines lost 73-62. This season, Mines is 4-1 when they score at least 60. LET THE RMAC GAMES BEGIN: Mines opened up conference
play 1-1. They will look to imrove this record this weekend with two
more conference games against Fort Lewis and Adams State. |
