head womens basketball coach at Colorado School of Mines. Last
season, Krueger led CSM to its best season in program history as the
team tallied a 19-9 overall record, including 13-6 in the Rocky Mountain
Athletic Conference. In addition, she guided the squad to the RMAC
Tournament for the second straight year where the fifth-seeded Orediggers
lost in the opening round to fourth-seeded Fort Hays State. A graduate
of Northern State, Krueger was a standout on the basketball court
as she earned national tournament MVP honors as a senior during Northerns
national championship campaign in 1993-94. In addition, Krueger was
also a team captain and all-district performer on NSUs softball
team. She earned NSUs prestigious Hildred Wolfe Student Athlete
of the Year award as a senior. Following her successful athletic career,
Krueger served as a graduate assistant at Northern State from 1995-96
for womens basketball and softball while finishing up her studies.
She received her bachelors in education from Northern in 1995
and her masters in teaching in 1996. After graduation, Krueger
served as the assistant womens basketball coach and head softball
coach at Northern State. During her six years as assistant at
NSU, she helped lead her squad to a 114-59 mark. No. Probable Starters Ht. Yr. Hometown PPG RPG APG MINES PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON RMAC POLL: The Colorado School of Mines womens basketball team was picked fifth out of seven teams in the Preseason RMAC East Division Poll. Regis University was picked to win the division as it received 8 first place votes and 18 points. Metro State was picked second with 23 points, while Fort Hays State was third with 43 points. Nebraska-Kearney (44 points), Mines (58), Chadron State (72) and Colorado Christian (85) rounded out the poll. NEXT AT HOME: Mines will return to Volk Gymnasium to play Colorado State-Pueblo at 6:00 pm on Saturday. LAST WEEK (1/5, 1/7): The Colorado School of Mines womens basketball team continued their winning streak with a 52-48 win against New Mexico Highlands Thursday night, but fell to UC- Colorado Springs Saturday night 58-46, ending their four-game winning streak. AGAINST HIGHLANDS: The Colorado School of Mines womens basketball team continued their win streak, with their fourth consecutive win after they beat the Cowgirls of N.M. 52-48. The Orediggers were led by Iva Tomova and Angela Pearson who each had 16 points, Ashley Gronewoller added 12 and had a team high 8 rebounds. AGAINST UC-COLORADO SPRINGS: Mines four game winning streak came to a hault on Saturday as they fell 58-46 to the Mountain Lions. For the second game in a row, Pearson led the way with 18 points, while Gronewoller chipped in 17 and a team high 12 rebounds. Mines played without this seasons leading scorer, Tomova due to an ankle injury which she suffered the day before in practice. LAST TIME vs. COLORADO COLLEGE: Last season the Orediggers came away with a 69-48 win over Colorado College. Angela Pearson led Mines with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Liz Kolbe led the Tigers last season with 19 points. Last Time vs. CSU-Pueblo: Mines squeeked by CSU-Pueblo last year with a 57-54 win. Ashley Gronewoller led Mines as she had 10 points and seven rebounds. CSU returns three of their five starters from last season, one of these is Lauren Westerman who had eight points and four rebounds last year against Mines. Westerman currently leads her team this season averaging 17.1 points per game. SUPER SENIOR: CSM senior center Ashley Gronewoller continues to build upon her already successful career at Mines. Last year, Gronewoller made her second straight appearance on the First Team East Division and third straight appearance on the All-RMAC East Division Team. She finished the season averaging a team-best 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. She also led the team with 45 blocked shots, while shooting 58 percent (144-247) from the field. Gronewoller was also selected to the pre season All RMAC and All RMAC East Division Teams for the 2005-06 season. GRONEWOLLER THIS SEASON: This season, Gronewoller is averaging 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds. She was named the RMAC Player of the Week in week 3. Currently, Gronewoller ranks eighth in the RMAC with a 15.1 average for points per game, is second in rebounding (8.3) is third with a .573 field goal percentage and is second in blocked shots with a total of 26. GRONEWOLLER RECORDS: Gronewoller is also closing in on three Colorado School of Mines records. She currently ranks third with career points with 1,212, second in career rebounds with 731 and second in career field goals made with 484. ANGELLA AMONG US: Junior forward Angela Pearson continues to follow her impressive season last year in which she was fourth on the team in scoring (8.4) and third in rebounds (5.8). This season, Pearson currently is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 6.3 per game and is averaging 10.3 points per game, third on the team. Pearson had a big weekend this past weekend as she led Mines with 16 points against Highlands and a team high 18 points on Saturday against Colorado Springs. OUT OF THIS COUNTRY: Iva Tomova is originally from Varna, Bulgaria and transfered to Mines from Northeastern Junior College, after a successful career at her junior college, Tomova leads the team with a 15.6 points per game average, which puts her 7th in the RMAC. She also has scored in double figures in 11 of the 13 games the Orediggers have played this season. She also is ranked fourth in the RMAC with a .871 free throw percentage. Tomova led Mines against New Mexico Highlands on Thursday with 16 points, while she had to sit out Saturday against Colorado Springs due to an injury. BE LIKE EICK: After sitting out last season due to injury, Sara Eickelman is CSM's starting point guard this season. She leads the team with 38 assists, which puts her 10th in the RMAC. CRISP BEGINNING: Freshman Kelsey Crist has started her collegiate career off on a high note. Averaging 7.2 ppg and 4.5 rebounds, Crist has proven to be a big addition to the Orediggers team this season, becoming one of the starters. Crist opened up her collegiate career with 14 points and 8 rebounds, close to a double-double against Johnson and Wales. She also shot a perfect 6-6 from the line on 12/4 against Cornell College. This past weekend Crist was third on the team with nine points against Colorado Springs and had six rebounds against Highlands. LETS GET 60: The number 60 appears to be the good luck charm for the womens basketball team. In the past three seasons, Mines is 25-3 when it scores at least 60 points. CSM only lost once last season when it scored at least 60 points and it was on February 18, 2005 against Nebraska Kearney. Mines lost 73-62. This season, Mines is 6-2 when they score at least 60. HOME SWEET HOME: Mines is close to unbeatable this season, with a 6-1 home record. Mines will return to Volk Gymnmasium this Saturday as they will play infront of its home crowd at 6:00 pm with a game against CSU-Pueblo. |
