CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO METRO STATE, 69-56 DENVER, Colo. - The sixth-seeded Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 69-56 setback to third-seeded Metro State in the RMAC Shootout Quarterfinals on Wednesday night at the Auraria Events Center. CSM (15-13) fell behind in the first half, 24-5, but rallied to cut the deficit to 11 point (34-23) at the half. CSM then came out in the second half and was able to slice the deficit to as little as two points with 9:17 to play in the game, but could not get closer. The telling tale of the game was at the foul line where Metro State shot 21, which was 19 more than CSM shot the entire game (2). The Orediggers were led by senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) who posted 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Tomova finished the season with a single season school-record 463 points. She broke the previous mark of 450 set by Ashley Gronewoller last season. Sophomore guard Sara Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) added 12 points, five boards and four assists, while freshman forward Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo./Arvada West) chipped in 13 points. Metro State (23-5), ranked 21st in Division II, received 15 points and eight rebounds from Ashley Mickens. Anne Marie Torp (15) and Danille Ellerington (10) also scored in double figures. The Roadrunners advance to the RMAC Shootout Semifinals and will play second-seeded CSU-Peublo on Saturday at the Colorado State Fairgrounds Events Center in Pueblo. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS A CLOSE ONE TO METRO, 66-63 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team lost a close one tonight in Volk Gymnasium to the Metro State Roadrunners, 66-63. After going into halftime trailing 39-33, the Orediggers came out firing in the second half. Mines went on top for the first time in the game with nine minutes remaining making the score 50-48. The Roadrunner's would not go away however as they battled back to tie the game up at 61 with less than a minute remaining. The Roadrunners were able to put it away as they made five straight free throw shots ending the game at 66-63. Mines was paced by Emily Dalton, Iva Tomova and
Angela Pearson who all three scored 12 points. Sara Eickelman
had a team high five rebounds while she chipped in seven points. CSM will return to action on Wednesday in the RMAC Quarterfinals. Senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) finished with 19 points, while freshman forward Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo./Arvada West) added 15 points. Sophomore guard Sara Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) finished with 14 points and five dimes. Freshman forward Blakelee Midyett (Golden, Colo./Golden) chipped in 14 points, while freshman center Savannah Afoa (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) recorded 11 points and nine boards. CCU (7-19, 3-15 RMAC) received a game-high 23 points from Sara Davis. CSM (15-11, 12-6 RMAC) will conclude its regular season with a 6:00 pm game Saturday night against Metro State. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS AT UCCS, 63-53 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team outscored UC-Colorado Springs, 38-28, in the second half to break open a tie game and claim a 63-53 win in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night at the Lions Den. CSM (14-11, 11-6 RMAC) clinched a spot in the RMAC Shootout with the win. Their opponent, location and time will be determined after next weekend's games. Senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) led the way with 20 points, eight boards and four assists. Freshman center Savannah Afoa (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) added 10 points, while sophomore guard Amanda Adams (Evergreen, Colo./Dakota Ridge) chipped in 10 points and four rebounds off the bench. UCCS (9-15, 7-9 RMAC) received 15 points and six boards from Tonya Tripp. CSM will return to action Friday night with a 6:00 pm game against Colorado Christian in Volk Gym. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT REGIS, 60-47 DENVER, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines senior center Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha) tallied 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench, but it wasn't enough as the Orediggers fell at 22nd-ranked Regis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball action Friday night at Regis Fieldhouse. The Rangers led 28-23 at halftime, but were able to extend that advantage to as many as 16 points in the second half. CSM led 47-35 at halftime and outrebounded the Eagles, 52-36. Freshman forward Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo./Arvada West) chipped in 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while senior center Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha) recorded 10 points. The Orediggers (13-10, 10-5 RMAC) will return to action on Friday night when they travel to Regis for a 5:00 pm game. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOSES AT NEBRASKA-KEARNEY, 64-43 KEARNEY, Neb. - Nebraska-Kearney, the seventh ranked team in the North Central Region, raced out to a 29-19 halftime lead en route to a 64-43 win over Colorado School of Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball action Thursday night at the Health & Sports Center. CSM (12-10, 9-5 RMAC) was led by senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) who scored 12 points. Freshman center Savannah Afoa (Anchorage, Alaska/Dimond) added seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while freshman forward Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo./Arvada West) flirted with a double-double before finishing with eight points and nine boards. UNK (16-6, 11-4 RMAC) was led by Jonni Mildenberger who led four Lopers in double figures with 17 points. She also had seven rebounds. Liz Fischer (12), Melissa Hinkley (11) and Jade Meads (11) all tallied double figures for UNK. The Orediggers are slated to return to action on Saturday night with a 6:00 pm game at Chadron State. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO REGIS, 54-45 GOLDEN, Colo. - Despite a career-high 30 points from senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC), the Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team fell to Regis University, 54-45, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night in Volk Gym. CSM fell to 12-9 overall and 9-4 in the RMAC, while the Rangers, ranked sixth in the North Central Region and 23rd in Division II, improved to 17-4 (12-1 RMAC). Regis led 26-16 with 1:47 to play in the first half, but the Orediggers cut the lead to five (27-22) at the break. CSM was then able to knot the game at 40-40 with 5:31 to play, which marked the first time the Orediggers tied the game all night. However, Regis closed the game on a 14-5 run to claim the win. The Rangers were led by Breanne Burley who scored 15 points and added four boards. Diana Lopez added 10 points and six rebounds. CSM will return to action Thursday night when it travels to Nebraska-Kearney for a 6:00 pm tipoff. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS UC-COLORADO SPRINGS, 60-46 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team placed four players in double figures and won for the 12th time in 14 games with a 60-46 win over UC-Colorado Springs in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night in Volk Gym. CSM (12-8, 9-3 RMAC) led at halftime, 28-26, but the Mountain Lions knotted the game at 32-32 four minutes into the second half. However, the Orediggers went on a 10-2 run to claim an eight point lead and pushed the lead to 10 (50-40) with 5:30 to play in the game. Senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) led the way with 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The Lopers, who came into the game ranked third in the North Central Region, were averaging 74.4 points per game and were held to a season low in points. CSM (11-8, 8-3 RMAC) never trailed in the game and gained a 10 point lead (24-14) with 3:46 to play in the first half on a layup from senior center Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha). UNK was never able to get its deficit under 10 points the rest of the way. Senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) led the way with 20 points and five boards. CSM senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria) continued her impressive playing this season, as she led the Orediggers with 23 points. Also scoring in double figures was freshman Blakelee Midyett (Golden, Colo.), Midyett ended the night with 11 points and chipped in five rebounds. The Orediggers went into half with a one point lead with a score 29-28. The second half was all Metro as they outscored the Orediggers 35-20 giving them the 63-49 victory. The loss puts Mines at 8-8 overall and 5-3 in the RMAC. The Orediggers were led by Iva Tomova who ended the night with 16 points. Freshman forward Blakelee Midyett chipped in 11 points and a team high eight rebounds. The Orediggers will return to action tonight with an away game against The Colorado Christian Cougars at 5:00 pm. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOPS ADAMS STATE, 59-42 GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines freshman forward Blakelee Midyett (Golden, Colo./Golden) scored a career-high 14 points and added a career-high 12 rebounds to lead the Orediggers to a 59-42 win over Adams State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night in Volk Gym. Midyett, who went 6-of-6 from the floor, scored her 14 points a night after recording her previous career-high of 12 points on 5-of-5 shooting. CSM (8-7, 5-2 RMAC) will return to action on Friday night when it travels to Metro State for a 5:00 pm game. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GETS SWEET VICTORY OVER CSU-PUEBLO GOLDEN, Colo. - After losing to CSU-Pueblo in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in 2006, Mines got their revenge tonight at Volk Gymnasium with a 68-64 win over CSU-Pueblo. Mines found themselves battling back and forth with the Thunderwolves, and at one point in the second half found themselves down by nine points. The Orediggers then went on a seven point unanswered run with only three minutes remaining giving them the lead for good. The Orediggers had three players end in double digit scoring. Freshman Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo,/Arvada West) led the way with 17 points while Blakelee Midyett (Golden, Colo./Golden) and Amanda Adams chipped in 12 points a piece. The Thunderwolves were paced by Kerry Lewis who ended the night with 17 points. The win improves Mines' record to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC, it is also their sixth win in a row at home. Mines will return to action tomorrow night with a 6:00 home game against Adams State. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GETS 67-55 WIN OVER MESA STATE GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team improved their conference record to 3-2 last night, with a 67-55 win over The Mesa State Mavericks. Iva Tomova led the Orediggers victory over the Mavericks Saturday night with her 22 points and eight rebounds. Tomova has scored in double figures 12 out of the 13 games mines has played. Senior center Angela Pearson, chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds in the game. Mines went into halftime with a 10 point lead and never looked back as they remained on top the rest of the game. The Mavericks were led by Brittany Fowler's 24 points. Mines improves to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play. CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS AT FORT LEWIS, 65-60 DURANGO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team had its five game win streak snapped with a 65-60 loss at Fort Lewis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Whalen Gymnasium. CSM was led by senior guard Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria/Northeastern JC) who posted 23 points, four rebounds and three assists. Senior center Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha) was the only other Oredigger to reach double digits as she tallied 12 points and a game-best 12 reboungs. Fort Lewis (6-6, 3-2 RMAC) was led by Katie Mackey who recorded 13 points and Laura Haugen who posted 12. CSM (5-7, 2-2 RMAC) will return to action on Saturday night with a 6:00 pm game at Mesa State. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HOLDS ON TO 62-58 WIN GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team got their fifth straight win tonight, after a 62-58 win over The Kansas Wesleyan Coyote's. The win is the fifth in a row for Mines and fifth in a row at home. Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria) led the Orediggers for the second night in a row with her 17 points. Sara Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo.) finished the night with 10 points while Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo.) chipped in nine points and seven rebounds. After a five game stand at home, the Orediggers will go on the road this next weekend with games against Fort Lewis College Friday night and Mesa State on Saturday. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS BIOLA 63-46 GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team came away with a 63-46 victory tonight over Biola University. The win is Mines' fourth straight win and improves their record to 4-6. The Orediggers were led by Iva Tomova's (Varna, Bulgaria) 25 points while freshman Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo.) added 14 points and eight rebounds. Rachel Dunlin led Biola with 15 points. CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL BEATS WESTERN NEW MEXICO 63-45 GOLDEN, Colo. - For the third game in a row, The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team found themselves victorious. The Orediggers earned their second conference win, and their third win in a row with a 63-45 vicotry over The Western New Mexico Mustangs tonight at Volk Gymnasium. Freshman Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo./Golden) led the way for the Orediggers with 16 points and six rebounds, while center Angela Pearson (Arvada, Colo./Maranatha) had a breakout game with 15 points and seven boards. The Mustangs were led by Crystal Smith, who ended the night with 12 points. The Orediggers will return to action after the holidays, with home games on the 29th and 30th, game times are at 4:00 pm. -OREDIGGERS-
CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS CONFERENCE WIN OVER NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team earned their first conference win of the season, with a 58-45 victory over New Mexico Highlands University tonight. The win is the first for the Orediggers in The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and is their second win in a row. Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria) paced the Orediggers once again with her 17 points. Tomova has scored in double figures in Mines' last seven games. Sara Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo.) also scored in double figures, ending the night with 11 points. The Cowgirls were led by Christine Uzoh's 10 points and six rebounds. CSM led at halftime, 37-24 and went on to win its first game of the season. CSM is now 1-6 and 0-1 in the RMAC. The Orediggers trailed by only two going into halftime, but a 12-3 run by The Minnesota-Mankato Mavericks in the second half led them to a 61-55 victory when it was all said and done. CSM was led by Iva Tomova's (Varna, Bulgaria) 14 points, while Sophomore point guard Sara Eickelman (Pueblo, Colo.) chipped in 10. Mines will not return to action until December 7th when they travel to Gunnison, Colo. where they will face the Western State College Mountaineers. -OREDIGGERS- CSM WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS UP THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT WITH 84-68 LOSS OMAHA, Neb.. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team opened up their holiday tournament tonight at The University of Nebraska-Omaha, with a 84-68 setback to the host team. Iva Tomova led the team, scoring a season high 22 points. Sara Eickleman and Emily Dalton also found themselves with double figure scoring, as Eickelman had 14 and Dalton ended the night with 10. Nebraska-Omaha was paced by Ashley Freerksen's 23 points along with Lacey Geitzenauer's 19. GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team opened up their first home game of the season tonight, with a 76-50 loss to The University of South Dakota Coyotes. The Orediggers were led for the second game in a row by Senior Iva Tomova (Varna, Bulgaria) who ended the night with 13 points. Freshman Emily Dalton (Golden, Colo.) chipped in eight. The Coyotes had four of their players in double digit scoring, as Ashley Robinette led the team with 13 points. Mines will be on the road this weekend with two games at The University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Orediggers fell to the Wildcats 65-57. Freshman center Brecca Gaffney (Greeley, Colo./Northridge) led the way for the Orediggers as she opened up her collegiate career with 11 points and seven rebounds.
