CSM CROSS COUNTRY OPENS SEASON AT CU TIME TRIAL BOULDER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2004 season on Saturday afternoon at the University of Colorado Time Trial/Alumni Run. The women's race was 5.8 kilometers, while the men ran eight kilometers. Leading the way for the women's squad were juniors Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis Palmer) and Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) who tied for first place in the event with identical times of 22:57. Classmate Serena Gardiner (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth) placed 14th in 24:32, while junior Loren Large (Thornton, Colo./Skyview) was 15th in 25:07. On the men's side, senior Jason Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) and sophomore Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) each recorded times of 27:21 to place 14th overall. Both teams will return to action on Sept. 18 when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the Woody Green Invitational. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
