MINES CROSS COUNTRY RUNS AT REGIONALS HAYS, Kan. -- The Colorado School of Mines mens and womens cross country teams were in action on Saturday morning at the NCAA II Regionals in Hays, Kan. The mens squad placed 12th of 20 teams with 340 points, while the CSM women placed 10th of 24 teams with 313 points. The Western State men (23 points) and the Adams State women (23 points) won the team championships. Leading the way for the CSM men was senior Sean Moran (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) who placed 38th with a time of 33:03. Freshman Ryan Young (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) notched a 58th place showing (33:40), while junior Derek Hudson (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) tallied a 69th place showing (33:59). For the women, freshman Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) finished 31st as she registered a time of 23:24. Classmate Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) claimed 51st (23:55), while senior Meg Schissler (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) was 64th (24:15). Todays meet concluded the 2002 season for Mines. -- orediggers -- MINES CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS GUNNISON, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines cross country teams were in action this morning at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships which were hosted by Western State University. The CSM mens squad placed fifth of nine teams with 143 points, while the Mines women placed fourth of 11 teams with 136 points. Western State captured the mens team title with 19 points, while Adams State won the womens team title with 22 points. Leading the way for the CSM men was senior Sean Moran (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) who placed 23rd with a time of 27:48. Freshman Ryan Young (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) claimed 26th place (28:01), while senior Michael Sharkey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado) recorded a 28th place showing with a time of 28:15. For the Mines women, freshman Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) finished 13th as she registered a time of 23:11. Classmate Hannah Davey (Evergeen, Colo./Evergreen) finished 24th with a time of 24:20, while senior Meg Schissler (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) placed 29th (24:43). Both squads will be back in action on Nov. 9 when they compete in the NCAA Regional Championships. -- orediggers -- CSM WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNS AT NORTHERN COLORADO GREELEY, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines womens cross country team was in action at the Dan Libera Memorial Meet hosted by Northern Colorado on Saturday morning. The womens squad placed sixth of 12 teams at the event with 154 points. Adams State captured the team title with 17 points and was followed by Black Hills State and CU-Colorado Springs who each totaled 94 points, Wyoming (118), New Mexico Highlands (149) and Mines. Leading the way for the CSM women was freshman Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) was the top finisher for her squad for the fifth time in as many races this season as she notched an 11th place finish with a time of 18:21 on the 5,000 meter course. Senior Meg Schissler (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) recorded a time of 19:22 to place 26th, while freshman Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) tallied a 28th place finish as she completed the course in 19:24. Both the CSM mens and womens teams will be back in action on October 26 when they compete at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in Gunnison, Colo. -- orediggers -- MINES CROSS COUNTRY RUNS AT UNIVERSIT OF COLORADO BOULDER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday afternoon at the University of Colorado Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo. Both the men's (132 points) and women's (107 points) squads placed third of nine teams. Leading the way for the CSM men was the trio of sophomore Jon Allen (Littleton, Colo./Heritage), senior Michael Sharkey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado) and senior Sean Moran (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) who finished the course in a span of three seconds apart. Allen placed 36th with a time of 27:57, Sharkey ran a 27:58 to place 37th, while Moran finished 38th as he registered a time of 27:59. For the CSM women, freshman Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) was the top finisher for her squad for the fouth time in as many races this season as she notched a 12th place finish with a time of 22:47. Classmate Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) tallied a 27th place finish (23:48), while senior Meg Schissler (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) recorded a time of 24:04 to place 32nd. Both the CSM men's and women's teams will be back in action Saturday morning when they run in the Northern Colorado Invitational in Greeley, Colo. MINES CROSS COUNTRY RUNS AT WESTERN STATE GUNNISON, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines mens and womens cross country teams competed at the Western State Invitational on Saturday morning in Gunnison, Colo. In the mens team competiton the Orediggers placed second of three teams with 47 points. Western State won the event with 22 points, while Adams State finished third with 71 points. The CSM women also placed second (56 points) behind Adams State (16 points) and ahead of Western State (58 points). Leading the way for the Mines mens team was senior Michael Sharkey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado) who finished third overall with a time of 29:05. Sophomore Jon Allen (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) recorded a fifth place finish with a time of 29:33, while senior Sean Moran (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) registered a time of 29:46 for a ninth place finish. For the CSM women, freshman Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) tallied a fifth place finish with a time of 20:28. Senior Meg Schissler (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) ran 21:39 to finish 10th, while freshman Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) recorded a time of 21:41 to finish one spot behind Schissler. Both the CSM mens and womens teams will be out of action next weekend and will return to action when they compete at the University of Colorado Invitational on October 5. -- orediggers -- CSM CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT COLORADO STATE FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines mens and womens cross country teams were in action on Saturday morning at the Colorado State Invitational. The mens team placed fifth of seven teams with 171 points, while the womens squad finished seventh of seven teams with 220 points. The Western State men (24 points) and Colorado State women (26 points) won the team titles at the invitational. Leading the way for the Oredigger men was senior Michael Sharkey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado) who finished in 29th place with a time of 27:16. Senior Sean Moran (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) finished the course in 27:42 to claim 42nd place, while junior Grant Scott (Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson) tallied a 34th place finish with a time of 27:57. For the CSM women, freshman Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) claimed 18th place with a time of 23:04, while classmate Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) registered a 27th place finish with a time of 23:54. Both the Oredigger mens and womens teams will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Gunnison, Colo., to compete in the Western State Invitrational. -- orediggers -- MINES CROSS COUNTRY OPENS SEASON AT CU/TIME TRIAL The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams began the 2002 season by competing at the CU Open/Time Trial at Buffalo Ranch on CU's South Campus on Saturday morning. Running primarily against a field of runners from the University of Colorado, the defending Division I National Champs, the Orediggers put forth a solid effort in their first competition of the season. The Oredigger men were paced by senior Michael Sharkey (Colorado Springs, Colo./Coronado), who recorded the top time on the team with a 28:01. Senior Sean Moran (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) ran a 29:15, while junior Grant Scott (Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson) posted a time of 29:24, the third best for Mines. On the women's side, freshman Heather Beresford (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer) recorded the best time by a Mines runner with a 23:20 mark. Senior Meg Schissler (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) recorded a time of 24:44, while freshman Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) posted a time of 24:59. Four of the top six CSM women finishers were freshmen. The Orediggers will return to action next Saturday when they run at the Colorado State Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. -- orediggers -- |
