CSM MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FINISHES SEVENTH AT
NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

PENSACOLA, Fla.. - The Colorado School of Mines men's cross country team finished seventh this afternoon at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Pensacola, Florida.

The Orediggers finished seventh in a field of 24 teams and 187 runners. This was the second time in school history the men turned in a top 10 finish at the national meet. Last year, Mines finished sixth.

The Orediggers landed three on the All-American team. To earn All-American, you must be one of the top 30 American runners to finish.

Transfer student Greg Reindl (Green Mountain, Colo.) led the way for the Orediggers, his time of 29:47.3 for the 10,000 meter course was good enough for a 12th place finish. Joel Hamilton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was second for Mines with his 21st place finish in a time of 30:05.2. Clifton Oertli (Littleton, Colo) was the third and final runner for Mines to finish in All-American status with a 32nd place finish (30:26.1).

Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished 56th while teammate Sean Cusick (Westminster, Colo.) rounded out the top five for Mines in 130th.

CSM MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM QUALIFIES FOR NATIONALS

WAYNE, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams were in Wayne, Neb. this morning, where they competed in the North Central Regional Championships. CSM men finished third overall while the women were 12th.

The men's team qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships with their third place team finish Saturday morning. CSM finished third with 71 points, behind Adams State (26) and Western State (55). The top five teams on the men's side earned a spot at the National Meet which will be held in Pensacola, Fla. November 18th.

The men's team was led by Joel Hamilton's (Colorado Springs, Colo./ Liberty) third place finish, while teammates Greg Reindl (Green Mountain, Colo.) and Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) finished 9th and 10th respectively. The top 15 finishers earned All-Region honors. The top five scorers for Mines were rounded off by Ryan Miles' (Gretna, Neb./Gretna) 21st place finish and Michael Rooney's (Arlington, VA.) 38th place finish.

The women's team, made up of juniors and freshman finished in 12th out of 24 teams. The women were led by junior Serena Gardiner (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth) who finished in 47th with a time of 23:36.50.

Next for the men will come November 18 th where they will compete against the nations top Division II teams.

CSM CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS RUN AT RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday afternoon at the 2006 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships Saturday morning at Elmwood Golf Course. The men's squad placed third overall with 67 points, while the women were eighth with 226 points.

The Adams State men's team scored 19 points to win the title, while the Grizzly women had 33 points to place first overall. Western State's men (52 points) and women (43 points) were the runners-up.

The CSM men were led by senior Greg Reindl (Green Mountain, Colo.) and senior Larry McDaris (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) who each earned All-RMAC accolades by placing in the top-10. Reindl was seventh with a time of 25:11.50, while McDaris finished 10th in 25:35.65.

The Oredigger women received a 16th place showing from senior Serena Gardiner (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth) to lead the way.

Both teams will be back in action on Nov. 4 when they compete in the NCAA Division II Regional Championships in Wayne, Neb.

CSM CROSS COUNTRY RUNS COWBOY JAMBOREE

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday afternoon at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree.

The men's squad placed fourth of 15 teams, while the women were 14th of 15 squads.

Division I Arkansas won the men's title with 40 points and was followed by Abilene Christian (64), Oklahoma State (80), Colorado School of Mines (155) and Tulsa (158).

Oklahoma State won the women's team title with 49 points, while CSM scored 359.

Leading the way for the CSM men was senior Joel Hamilton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) who placed fifth overall in 24:36, while senior Greg Reindl (Green Mountain, Colo.) was 15th overall with a time of 25:08.

Senior Serena Gardiner (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth) led the Oredigger women with a 40th place finish in 19:27.

Both teams will now be out of action until the RMAC Championships in Pueblo, Colo., on Oct. 21.

CSM CROSS COUNTRY RUNS AT WOODY GREENO INVITE
Men Win Team Title as Hamilton Places First Overall

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's cross country teams were in action on Saturday at the University of Nebraska-Woody Greeno Invitational at Pioneer's Park.

The men's squad placed first out of 27 schools, while the women were 12th of 27 teams. The men scored 25 points to easily win the College Division Title and scored 35 points to win the overall title. The women's team posted 203 points to finish eighth in the College Division race and had 316 points to finish in 12th place overall.

Teams from Division I, II, III and the NAIA participated in the race.

CSM senior Joel Hamilton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won the overall race with a time of 25:09.50, knocking off runners from Nebraska and Wyoming. Senior Greg Reindl placed third overall in 25:40, while junior Michael Rooney (Arlington, Va.) was ninth with a time of 26:16 and junior Clifton Oertli (Littleton, Colo.) placed 10th overall in 26:30.

On the women's side, senior Serena Gardiner (Evergreen, Colo.) finished in 25th place as she recorded a time of 23:56 to lead the way.

Both teams are slated to return to action on Sept. 30 at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.

CSM CROSS COUNTRY OPENS SEASON AT CU TIME TRIAL

BOULDR, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines Cross Country team opened up the 2006 season Saturday morning at the annual CU Time Trial in Boulder, Colo. Mines sat out some of their top male competitors, as the newcomers had a chance to show what they had.

The women's team was led by senior Serena Gardiner, (Elizabeth, Colo./Elizabeth) who finished in a time of 23:29 which placed her ninth overall.

For the men, Aaron Huen (Boulder, Colo.) was the first for Mines with a time of 28:00 putting him 20th overall. Ryan Inman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) ran unattached and came in 18th with a time of 27:47.

Mines will return to action Sept. 16 at the Woody Greeno Invite in Lincoln, Neb.
