GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines senior quarterback Chad Friehauf (Brush, Colo./Brush) completed 25-of-34 passes for 285 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Orediggers to a 48-12 win over Missouri-Rolla on Saturday afternoon at Brooks Field. The win means CSM will retain the Mineral Rights Bowl Trophy, which goes to the winner of the game. With his performance, Friehauf broke three career records, passing touchdowns, passing yards and pass completions, at Mines. The Orediggers raced out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter as Friehauf threw for three touchdowns in the opening 15 minutes. Two of his scores went to junior wide receiver Justin Gallas (Westminster, Colo./Northglenn). Following a 4-yard scoring strike from Brandon Landry to Cole Drussa with 13:54 to play in the first half, the Orediggers went on to score the next 21 points, capped when senior running back Craig Van Horn (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty) found paydirt from 11 yards out. Friehauf added a 4-yard scoring run and also hooked up with senior wide receiver Jonny Chan (Aurora, Colo./Rangeview) for a 16-yard strike. It was the second touchdown pass for the duo on the afternoon. Brett Fischer caught a 73-yard touchdown pass from Landry with 9:13 to play in the game and CSM sophomore quarterback Garrett Mehl (Crete, Neb./Crete) capped the scoring with a 27-yard scamper just 16 seconds later. Gallas finished with 10 catches for 142 yards and two scores and Chan caught seven balls for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Van Horn toted the ball 20 times for 185 yards and a touchdown, while senior strong safety Daniel Leger (Arvada, Colo./Faith Christian) led the team with nine tackles, including a sack. Landry finished 29-of-54 for 449 yards and two touchdowns, while Fischer caught eight passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. Avian Jordan paced the Miner defense with a game-best 10 tackles. "We wanted to execute in all three facets of the game today," CSM Head Coach Bob Stitt said. "We wanted to be sharp heading into next weekend's conference opener and I feel we accomplished that this afternoon." CSM (2-0) returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Western State.
