SCOTT CAREY
ASSISTANT FOOTBALL COACH - OFFENSIVE LINE
 |
Scott Carey is in his fourth season as an assistant football
coach at Colorado School of Mines. Carey, who coaches the offensive linemen,
joined the Oredigger football staff after completing a two-year graduate
assistant position as the offensive line coach at Northeastern State.
During his time at Mines, the running game has improved dramatically.
Last season, the team averaged 163.5 rushing yards per game, which more
than doubled the amount averaged in 2001 (68.8 ypg), the year before Carey
arrived. In addition, the line surrendered just 15 sacks last season,
a school-record.
Junior left guard Travis Yenne garnered the most accolades in 2004 as
he was a First Team All-RMAC, First Team All-Southwest Region and Second
Team All-American. In addition, sophomore center Nick Belden earned Second
Team All-RMAC accolades after being named Honorable Mention All-Conference
in 2003.
Prior to his stint at Northeastern State, Carey was the offensive line
coach at Whitney High School for one year and the tight ends coach at
Tarleton State for one season. Carey has been responsible for coaching
two players who would later play in the National Football League with
the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins.
A four-year letterwinner as an offensive lineman at Tarleton State, Carey
earned All-American accolades and was also a member of the Lone Star All-Conference
Team.
He holds a bachelors degree from Tarleton State (1999) in physical
education and a masters degree (2001) in college teaching from Northeastern
State. He is a native of Killeen, Texas.
