JASON KOLTZ
ASSISTANT HEAD FOOTBALL COACH - LINEBACKERS / SPECIAL TEAMS
Jason Koltz enters his sixth year as the linebackers and
special teams coach at Colorado School of Mines football staff, and his
second as the Assistant Head Coach.
In 2006, outside linebacker Hunter Wardlaw garnered Honorable Mention
All-RMAC and NFF Honorable Mention All-Colorado accolades while collecting
four sacks and registering team-highs in tackles (94) and tackles for
a loss (7.5).
Former CSM linebacker Daniel Leger (2001-04), a First Team
All-RMAC, First Team All-Region and First Team All-American selection
in 2004, and finished his career as the Orediggers' all-time career leader
in tackles, sacks and tackles for a loss. Jared Heath, an Oredigger linebacker
from 2002-05, was a three-time All-RMAC and All-Region honoree. Heath
also garnered All-American laurels as a senior. In 2005, Heath finished
with a single-game school record 21 tackles in a loss to South Dakota.
Over the last six years, the CSM special teams units have been among the
best in the nation. In 2005 and 2006, the Orediggers led the RMAC in kickoff
returns, finishing second in the nation in that category two years ago.
In 2003 and 2004, CSM ranked 16th and 39th, respectively, in the nation
in punt returns. The Orediggers ranked 11th in the country in punt returns
and 22nd in kickoff returns in 2002, and 15th in kickoff returns and 26th
in punt returns in 2001.
Prior to arriving at CSM, Koltz served as the defensive coordinator at
the University of Missouri - Rolla for three years, and as an assistant
coach at Northern Michigan University for four seasons.
A 1994 graduate of Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State
University) with a B.A. in History, Koltz was a four-year letterwinner
as a tight end. During his collegiate career with the Bulldogs, Koltz
helped lead the squad to three NCAA playoff berths while earning Academic
all-conference honors and the Student-Athlete Award.
A native of Harvard, Illinois, Koltz currently makes his home in Golden.
