MINES GOLF PLACES FOURTH AT NORTHERN COLORADO INVITATIONAL

GREELEY, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines golf team earned a fourth place showing out of six teams at Monday’s 36-hole Northern Colorado Invitational contested at Highland Hills Golf Course. The Orediggers opened with a 318 and followed that with a 312 to notch the fourth place showing.

Northern Colorado won the event with a two-round total of 592 (299-293). Montana State-Billings was the runner-up at 595 and was followed by Fort Hays State (612), Mines, Nebraska-Kearney (640) and Colorado Christian (717).

CSM freshman Joe Ronevich (Wintersville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic) was the top finisher for his squad as he fired a 154 (79-75) to place in a tie for 18th place.

Mike Martin of Northern Colorado, playing as an individual, earned medalist honors with a 141 (70-71). He defeated Cole Nondorf of FHSU by two strokes (74-69).

The UNC Invitational concludes the 2003-04 season for Mines.

MINES GOLF PLACES 16th AT REGIONAL HEAD TO HEAD

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines golf team placed 16th of 17 teams at the Northwest Region Spring Head to Head Tournament at Firethorne Country Club. The two-day event consisted of 54 holes and was won by St. Cloud State, which edged out North Dakota State by one stroke (899 to900).

The top CSM finisher was freshman A.J. Hakala (Golden, Colo./Mullen) who placed 57th overall with a three-round total of 242 (82-82-78).

Mines will return to action on April 26 when it competes at the 36-hole Northern Colorado Open.

MINES GOLF PLACES EIGHTH AT CSM/REGIS INVITATIONAL

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines golf team placed eighth of nine teams at the 2004 Colorado School of Mines-Regis University Spring Golf Invitational contested on Sunday and Monday. The opening 18-holes were played at Bear Creek Country Club, while the final 18-holes were played at Fox Hollow Golf Course.

Colorado State-Pueblo fired a two-round total of 596 (+24) to win the team title. Adams State was the runner-up with a 609 and was followed by Regis and Northern Colorado, who tied for third place with identical 611 totals. Air Force (613), Fort Hays State (619), Nebraska-Kearney (635) and Colorado School of Mines (652) rounded out the field.

The Orediggers were led by sophomore Steve Greene (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) who tied for 26th with a 160 (78-82) total.

The champion Thunderwolves also boasted the top-two finishers in the event. Travis Morton won medalist honors with a 143 (73-70).

MINES GOLF PLACES FIFTH AT FORT HAYS INVITATIONAL

HAYS, Kan. - The Colorado School of Mines golf team placed fifth out of six teams at the 2004 Fort Hays Invitational at the par-71 Smoky Hill Country Club. The 54-hole event was won by Regis University which shot a 927 to defeat the host school by one stroke.

Oklahoma Panhandle State was third (942) and was followed by Adams State (952), Mines (959) and Colorado Christian (1,120).

Freshman Joe Ronevich (Wintersville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic) was the top CSM finisher as he shot a three round total of 229 (71-77-81) to place fourth. Freshman Mark Vallee (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) was tied for 15th with a total of 241 (77-78-86), while sophomore Steve Greene (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) tied for 20th with a 246 (85-82-79).

Cole Nondorf of Fort Hays State was the medalist with a six over par 219 total (75-73-71).

Mines is slated to return to action on April 4-5 when it co-hosts the 36-hole Colorado School of Mines/Regis University Invitational. Sunday’s round is slated to be played at Bear Creek, while Monday’s action will take place at Fox Hollow.

MINES GOLF PLACES FIFTH AT SKYHAWK INVITATIONAL

FARMINGTON, N.M. - The Colorado School of Mines golf team placed fifth out of eight teams at the 2004 Fort Lewis Skyhawk Invitational at Pinon Hills Golf Course. The event consisted of 54-holes and the host school won the event by firing a three-round total of 907.

FLC was followed by New Mexico Military Institute (932), Colorado State-Pueblo (941), Nebraska-Kearney (962), Colorado School of Mines (970), Regis (977), Oklahoma Panhandle State (993) and the Fort Lewis Junior Varisty squad (998).

Freshman Mark Vallee (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) was the top Mines finisher as he placed 13th with a 235 (81-80-74). Sophomore Steve Greene (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) tied for 17th with a 241, while freshman Joe Ronevich (Wintersville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic) shot a 243 to place 20th.

Jeremy Lederer of Fort Lewis took home medalist honors with a two-under par 214. He opened with the low round of the tournament (68) and followed that with 72 and 74 to win by 14 strokes.

Mines is slated to return to action on March 29-30 when it competes at the Fort Hays State Invitational.

MINES GOLF PLACES 14th AT NORTHWEST REGIONAL

HASTINGS, Neb. - The Colorado Mines golf team placed 14th out of 16 teams at the 2003 Northwest Regional Fall Head to Head Tournament. The 54-hole tournament was contested at the par 72 Lochland Country Club. CSM opened the tournament with rounds of 305 and 312 on Monday, before shooting a 321 in the final round on Tuesday.

Leading the way for the Orediggers was senior Doug Klepacki (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) who tied for 30th with a three round total of 229 (74-75-80). Junior Ryan Regier (Fort Worth, Texas/Boswell) tied for 42nd with a total of 233 (75-76-82), while freshman A.J. Hakala (Golden, Colo./Mullen) placed in a tie for 52nd at 237 (70-80-79).

South Dakota claimed the team title with a three round total of 891, just edging out CU-Colorado Springs and Augustana who tied for second at 892. North Dakota was fourth (894), while St. Cloud State rounded out the top five with a 901 total.

Jon Burns of Augustana claimed medalist honors at 6-under par 210 for the tournament. He opened with a 69 and followed that with a 65 before closing the tournament with a76.

The tournament concludes the fall season for Mines. The squad is slated to open the spring season at the Fort Hays State Invitational from March 28-30.

CSM GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AT CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Colorado Mines golf team placed sixth out of nine teams at the 2003 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Golf Championships. The 54-hole event was contested at Fox Hollow Golf Course, as Regis University served as the host.

Colorado State-Pueblo won the team title with a three round total of 856. The Thunderwolves were followed by Fort Lewis (883), CU-Colorado Springs and Regis (886 each), Nebraska-Kearney (894), Colorado Mines (903), Adams State (905), Fort Hays State (912) and Colorado Christian (1,017).

Freshman Mark Vallee (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) was the top Mines finisher as he placed in a tie for 12th with a three-round total of 222. Vallee opened with a 76 and followed that with a 74 and a final round 72. Senior Doug Klepacki (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) tied for 22nd with a 227 (70-81-76), while freshman A.J. Hakala (Golden, Colo./Mullen) tied for 30th with a 230 (82-76-72).

Travis Morton of CSU-Pueblo earned medalist honors as he fired a three-round total of 205 (72-67-66), which put him at 10-under par for the tournament.

Mines is slated to return to action next weekend when it competes at the season’s first Regional Qualifier in Hastings, Neb.

MINES GOLF TIES FOR SEVENTH AT OWN INVITATIONAL

FORT MORGAN, Colo. - The Colorado Mines golf team tied for seventh place at the Colorado Mines Invitational contested at Fort Morgan Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. The event was 36 holes on the 6,573 yard par-72 course.

Fort Lewis won the team title with a two day total of 583 and was followed by Nebraska-Kearney (592), Air Force Academy (594), Colorado State-Pueblo (596), Adams State (598), Regis (601) and Colorado Mines and Fort Hays State (611).

Leading the way for the Orediggers was freshman Joe Ronevich (Wintersville, Ohio/Steubenville Central Catholic) who tied for 14th place with a two-round total of 149 (74-75). Senior Doug Klepacki (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) placed 16th with a 36-hole total of 150 (76-74).

Mines fired a 314 on day one, but responded with a 297 during the final round in which three players shot 74 and the other two fired 75’s.

Greg Davis of Nebraska-Kearney was the medalist as he shot 73-67 (140) to defeat Bobby Foster of Fort Lewis, Chad Follett of Air Force and Jeff Philippe of Adams State by one stroke.

CSM will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday when it competes at the 54-hole Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in Lakewood, Colo.

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Colorado Mines golf team placed eighth out of 11 teams at the Adams State Invitational contested on Sunday and Monday. The teams played 36 holes on Sunday at the par-72 Rio Grande Golf Course and concluded the tournament with a single round at the par-71 Cattails Golf Course.

Utah Valley State won the team title with a 910 and was followed by CU-Colorado Springs (912), Colorado State-Pueblo (918), Adams State and Fort Lewis (921), Air Force (923), Fort Hays State (927), Colorado Mines (933), Nebraska-Kearney (937), Regis (944) and Colorado Christian (1,086).

Leading the way for the Orediggers was freshman Joe Ronevich (Wintersville, Ohio/Steubenville Central Catholic) who fired a three-round total of 226 (77-71-78) to tie for ninth place. Sophomore Steve Greene (Westminster, Colo./Standley Lake) tied for 22nd with a total of 232 (77-81-74).

Cole Nondorf of Fort Hays was the medalist with a two-under 213 (73-70-70).

Mines will be back in action this weekend when it competes in its own Invitational in Fort Morgan, Colo. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be a 36-hole event.
