UCCS wins team title at the 2008 NCAA Division II
Northwest Regional Spring Head-to-Head

PARKER, Colo. (Apr. 22, 2008) - The University of Colorado - Colorado Springs won the team championship at the 2008 NCAA Division II Northwest Regional Spring Head-to-Head (par 72; hosted by Colorado School of Mines), which was held on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 21st and 22nd, at The Pinery Country Club in Parker, Colo.

UCCS, which carried a 16-stroke lead into Tuesday's third and final round, recorded a team stroke total of 894 (+30) to win the event by 14 strokes over Western New Mexico University (908; +44). The University of Nebraska - Kearney (911; +47) took third place while St. Cloud State University (913; +49) and Colorado State University - Pueblo (916; +52) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The host Orediggers (952; +88) placed 12th.

The Mountain Lions' Tyler Bishop finished atop the leaderboard with his two-day, three-round score of 217 (+1). Bishop, who led by eight strokes after Monday's competition, posted rounds of 69, 74 and 74 en route to earning medalist honors.

UNK's Andy Bednar (218; +2) finished second while CSU - Pueblo's Casey Brock and St. Cloud State University's Danny Anderson tied for third place (224; +8). The Mountain Lions' Todd Napikoski and Eric Winder tied for fifth place (225; +9), as well. Chris Carey, who tied for 13th (229; +13), proved to be the Orediggers' top finisher.

With their victory at the 2008 NCAA Division II Northwest Regional Spring Head-to-Head, the Mountain Lions also secured the 2007-08 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Regular-Season Men's Golf Championship.

The 2008 NCAA Division II Northwest Regional Spring Head-to-Head marked the conclusion of the 2007-08 season for the Orediggers.

Orediggers place eighth at RMAC Championships

DURANGO, Colo. (Apr. 15, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines finished in eighth place at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Men's Golf Championships on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 14th and 15th, at Hillcrest Golf Club (par 71) in Durango, Colo. (hosted by Fort Lewis College).

The University of Colorado - Colorado Springs brought home the team title, recording a two-day, three-round stroke total of 858 (+6). The host Skyhawks (863; +11) took second place and Western New Mexico University (870; +18) finished third.

FLC's Luke Tanner, who topped the individual leaderboard and earned medalist honors, shot rounds of 66, 72 and 71 and finished at -4. UCCS's Todd Napikowski (211; -2) and WNMU's Marcus Molina (213; E) placed second and third, respectively.

Bill Moore and Garret Huelson paced Mines, tying for 25th place (226; +13). Sean Hovelkamp (228; +15) tied for 28th, Chris Carey (234; +21) placed 38th and David Kultala (290; +77) finished 43rd. As a team, the Orediggers finished at +62 (914).

The Orediggers are scheduled to host the 2008 NCAA Division II Northwest Regional Spring Head-to-Head on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 21st and 22nd, at The Pinery Country Club in Morrison, Colo.

Northern Colorado wins CSM Spring Invitational;
Bears' Bidne earns medalist honors

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (Mar. 31, 2008) - The University of Northern Colorado won the team championship at the Colorado School of Mines Spring Invitational on Monday, March 31st, at Fox Hollow Golf Course (par 71) in Lakewood.

The Bears, who began the second and final day of competition in third place, recorded a team score of 283 (-1) on Monday en route to a three-stroke victory over Montana State University - Billings. UNC concluded the CSM Spring Invitational with a team stroke total of 611 (+39) while the runner-up Yellowjackets finished at 614 (+42). The Colorado Christian University Cougars (621; +49), who sat just one stroke out of first place after Sunday's opening round at Bear Creek Golf Course (par 72) in Lakewood, placed third. Tournament host Colorado School of Mines (665; +93) took sixth place.

UNC's Stephen Bidne topped the individual leaderboard and earned medalist honors with his two-day stroke total of 145 (+2). Bidne, who was tied for eighth place after round one, registered a seven-under-par 64 to come away with a one-stroke victory over CCU's Clifton Sebra (73, 73; +3) and Patrick Kent (77, 69; +3). The University of Colorado's Riley Andrews (77, 70; +4), who competed as an individual, took fourth place while the Yellowjackets' Michael Konrad (77, 73; +7) finished fifth. Garret Huelson (83, 75; +15), who tied for 14th place, paced the Orediggers.

Monday's round, which was initially scheduled to be played at Red Rocks Country Club, was moved to Fox Hollow due to inclement weather and poor playing conditions in Morrison. Monday's competition was also reduced from 36 holes to 18 holes due to the relocation.

The Orediggers will compete in the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 14th and 15th, at Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo. (hosted by Fort Lewis College).

CSM places 15th at WNMU Mustang Intercollegiate Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Mar. 18, 2008) - The Colorado School of Mines golf team placed 15th at the Western New Mexico University Mustang Intercollegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 17th and 18th, at the University of New Mexico's Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. CSM's Chris Carey tied for 62nd place (+33), posting rounds of 85, 83 and 81 during the two-day event. Sean Hovelkamp (91, 80, 88; +43) tied for 75th and Bill Moore (86, 79, 95; +44) tied for 77th. Garret Huelson (87, 87, 90; +48) and Steve Chonka (90, 98, 92; +64) placed 81st and 86th, respectively. As a team, Mines posted a three-round score of 1,028 (+164).

Mines will host the CSM Spring Invitational on Sunday and Monday, March 30th and 31st. Competition on Sunday (one round) will be held at Bear Creek Golf Course in Lakewood while Monday's action (two rounds) will take place at Red Rocks Country Club in Morrison.

Mines places 10th at WNMU Cactus Thaw

SILVER CITY, N.M. (Feb. 10, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines placed 10th at the Western New Mexico University Cactus Thaw on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9th and 10th, in Silver City, N.M. Click here for FINAL RESULTS.

Bill Moore paced the Orediggers, tying for 31st place. Moore posted rounds of 78 and 77 to finish at +13, while Chris Carey finished in a tie for 33rd place at +14 (81, 75). Garret Huelson (81, 79; +18) and Sean Hovelkamp (81, 79; +18) tied for 50th place while David Kultala (94, 100; +52) placed 64th.

As a team, Mines finished with a two-day score of 631, which was 60 strokes off the pace of event champion WNMU.

The Orediggers are scheduled to compete at the WNMU Mustang Intercollegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 17th and 18th, in Albuquerque, N.M.

Orediggers place 12th at FHSU Invitational

HAYS, Kan. (Oct. 9, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's golf team finished 12th at the Fort Hays State University Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, October 8th and 9th, at Smoky Hill Country Club. CSM concluded the two-day, two-round event with a team stroke total of 688 (+120).

Cody Anderson paced the Orediggers, tying for 55th place. Anderson posted rounds of 82 and 78 to finish at +18, while Bill Moore finished in 58th place at +20 (83, 79). Evan Suazo (93, 90; +41) took 68th place, David Kultala (96, 91; +45) finished 69th and Steve Chonka (92, 96; +46) placed 70th.

The FHSU Invitational marked the final competition of the fall season for CSM. The Orediggers are scheduled to begin their spring schedule at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 14th and 15th, in Durango, Colo.

HASTINGS, Minn. (Sept. 25, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's golf team finished 12th at the 2007 NCAA Division II Northwest Region Fall Head-to-Head on Monday and Tuesday, September 24th and 25th, at Hastings C.C. Click here for FINAL RESULTS.

CSM concluded the two-day, three-round event with a team stroke total of 950 (+86), 71 strokes behind tournament winner St. Cloud State University.

Cody Anderson paced the Orediggers, tying for 23rd place. Anderson posted rounds of 79, 76 and 77 to finish at +16. Bill Moore tied for 46th place at +23 (75, 80, 84). Garret Huelson (78, 86, 77; +25) tied for 50th place, Chris Carey (83, 81, 79; +25) finished in a tie for 54th place and Andrew Riddell (81, 83, 90; +38) placed 63rd.

Carey places 29th

PUEBLO WEST, Colo. (Sept. 18, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines men's golf team finished eighth at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Golf Tournament #1 on Monday and Tuesday, September 17th and 18th, at Desert Hawk G.C. Click here for FINAL RESULTS.

Senior Chris Carey was the Orediggers' top finisher (29th place), concluding the two-day, three-round event at +23 (82, 73, 84; 239). Garret Huelson placed 32nd with rounds of 83, 77 and 82 (+26; 242).

Bill Moore tied for 33rd (+27; 243) and Cody Anderson tied for 36th (+29; 245). Andrew Riddell was disqualified.

The Orediggers will next compete in the NCAA Division II Northwest Region Fall Head-to-Head event on Monday and Tuesday, September 24th and 24th, in Hastings, Minn.

FLC registers team victory at Colo. Mines / Regis Univ. Fall Invite;
CCU's Klingensmith tops individual leaderboard

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (Sept. 11, 2007) - Fort Lewis College overcame a 13-stroke deficit entering the third and final round of play on Tuesday, September 11th, to win the 2007 Colorado School of Mines / Regis University Men's Golf Fall Invitational at Fox Hollow Golf Course.

As a team, the Skyhawks posted a 10-over-par team stroke total of 294 on Tuesday, which was 15 stokes better than Colorado Christian University's final-round team score of 309. Overall, Fort Lewis finished the two-day, three-round event with a 28-over-par stroke total of 880. CCU took home runner-up honors at the 2007 Colorado School of Mines / Regis University Men's Golf Fall Invitational with a final stroke total of 882 (+30).

Regis University took third place (+41), Colorado State University - Pueblo placed fourth (+43) and Fort Hays State University was fifth (+65). Colorado School of Mines (+81), Sterling College "A" (+84) and Sterling College "B" (+151) finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

CCU's Jon Klingensmith, the only student-athlete in the 40-player field to finish the event under par (-1), topped the final leaderboard with a three-round stroke total of 212 (71, 67, 74). Regis University's Bobby Arrañaga finished one stroke behind Klingensmith at even par (213; 70, 71, 72) to secure a runner-up individual finish. CSU - Pueblo's Casey Brock took third with a score of 214 (+1; 70, 73, 71). FLC's Luke Tanner (+3; 216) and FHSU's Nick Rotolo (+4; 217) rounded out the top five individuals.

The Orediggers and Rangers will next compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Head-to-Head event on Monday and Tuesday, September 17th and 18th, in Pueblo, Colo.
