MINES SOCCER TIES FLORIDA TECH, 1-1, IN SEASON OPENER LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Colorado School of Mines soccer team opened the 2004 season with a 1-1 draw against Florida Tech on Friday afternoon on the campus of Florida Southern University as each team mustered just a penalty kick to score. Just 15:31 into the game, Techs Mohammed Al-Sharif was taken down in the box and Zach Gabe converted the penalty kick for the games first goal. However, in the 65th minute, Oredigger junior forward Mike Dixon (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) was taken down in the box and junior midfielder Jeff Perkins (Houston, Texas/Army) scored the equalizer on a PK to make it 1-1. Neither team would score again as each team opened its season with a draw. Mines sophomore Kevin Galloway (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) played all 110 minutes in the net and did not make a save as Tech mustered just seven shots, but none on goal. Ashley Foster posted six saves for Florida Tech. The Orediggers will return to action on Sunday when it plays at Florida Southern. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 pm (EST). -- OREDIGGERS -- |
