DuPont places fourth in 51 kg. division at
2008 Dave Schultz Memorial Invitational

Claire DuPont

GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines' Claire DuPont took fourth place in the 51 kg. weight division (112 lbs.) at the 2008 Dave Schultz Memorial Invitational wrestling tournament on Friday - Sunday, February 8th - 10th, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

DuPont, a senior who hails from Leadville, Colo. (Lake County High School), is the lone female on the Colorado School of Mines wrestling squad. DuPont competed as an unattached wrestler in the Senior Women's Freestyle competition last weekend in Colorado Springs.

After suffering a 2-0 loss in the quarterfinals, DuPont came back to earn a 2-1 victory in the consolation semifinals at the Dave Schultz Memorial. DuPont would go on to endure a 2-1 setback in the third-place match at the Dave Schultz Memorial Invitational.

"Claire is an exceptionally hard worker," said Dan Lewis, the Head Wrestling Coach and Associate Director of Athletics at CSM. "Claire's perseverance and work ethic are tremendous, and we are proud of her showing at the Dave Schultz Memorial Invitational."

DuPont, who competes in the 125-lb. weight division at Mines, was the class of 2004 Valedictorian at Lake County High School. DuPont is 1-10 in her four seasons (2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08) with the Orediggers.

"Claire is an extraordinary young lady," said Tom Spicer, Director of Athletics at Colorado School of Mines. "We are very proud of her accomplishments as a student-athlete here at Mines."
