MINES SWIMMING COMPETES AT CSU EARLY BIRD INVITATIONAL

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2004-05 season at the Colorado State Early Bird Invitational last weekend. The women placed fifth of eight teams with 128.5 points and the men's squad was fifth of six teams with 282 points.

Leading the way for the women's squad was junior Megan Fry (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) who placed 17th in the 400 Individual Medley and 20th in the 200 Butterfly. Freshman Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) tallied a 17th place showing in the 200 Breaststroke.

On the men's side, junior Travis Kummer (Erie, Colo./Niwot) placed eighth in the 100 and 200 Breast, while senior Eric Dean (Eugene, Ore./North) also had a top-10 finish as he placed ninth in the 200 Breast. Junior Andy McAliley (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) was 10th in the 200 Fly.

Mines will return to action on Friday when it swims at Colorado College at 3:00 pm. Air Force, Metro State, North Dakota will also swim in the meet.
