CSM SWIMMING AND DIVING COMPETES AT NCC CHAMPIONSHIPS

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Colorado School of Mines swimming and diving teams were in action over the weekend at the 2006 North Central Conference Championships at the University of North Dakota. The women placed seventh with 162 points, while the men were sixth with 297 points.

Leading the way for the women was sophomore Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) who posted school record times in the 50 Breast (32.37), the 100 Breast (1:08.89) and the 200 Breast (2:28.78). Her time in the 200 Breast was good enough to finish fifth.

In addition, freshman Becca Walthall (San Antonio, Texas/Lee) placed eighth in the 200 Breast (2:29.40) and also swam under the old CSM records in the 50, 100 and 200 Breast, but Rainguet lowered the records.

For the men, senior Scott Harrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) finished fifth in the 200 IM in 1:57.62, while senior Nate Skitt (Westminster, Colo./Westminster) was eighth in the 1-meter diving and seventh in the 3-meter diving.

Three other freshman on the men's side performed well as Andrew Lochow (Lansing, Kan./Leavenworth) was seventh in the 1,650 Free (17:28.82), Eric Straily (Arvada, Colo./Lakewood) finished seventh in the 200 Breast in 2:14.97 and Aaron Boranian (Kailua, Hawaii/Kealakehe) tallied a seventh place showing in the 200 Fly (2:00.97).

Rainguet and Harrison were voted by the team as swimmers of the meet by scoring points in all four individual events and swimming to top-five finishes. Skitt was voted as diver of the meet by the team for diving in the finals of both boards.

The meet concludes the 2005-06 season for CSM. The men's squad was ranked 22nd in the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Power Rankings, while the women's team was 31st.

CSM Swim Team Competes at Colorado College Classic

Colorado Springs, Colo. - The CSM men's and women's swim teams competed at the Colorado College Classic this past weekend. The team as a combined score finished third out nine teams with a total of 1,895 points.

Seperately scored, the women's team finished second with 959 points behind first place Colorado College who had 1,461.50 points. CSM men finished third with 936 behind second place Colorado College (951) and first place, The University of Texas-Permian Basin (1,150).

The Orediggers had three individual champions along with three runner ups on the day.

Megan Fry (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) led the women's team with three individual victories. Fry won the 400 Individual Medley, 100 freestyle and the 200 Individual Medley. Teammate Becca Walthall (San Antonio, Texas/Lee) also swam to a win in the women's 200 breaststroke. Finishing second in her events was Renne Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn), Rainguet finished second in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 Individual Medley.

For the men, Scott Harrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) was the lone Oredigger to come away with an individual victory. Harrison came away with gold in the men's 200 Individual Medley. Dillon Hamm (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Academy) and Eric Straily (Arvada, Colo./Lakewood) both finished second in their events. Hamm was runner-up in the 100 freestyle while Straily was second in the 200 breaststoke.

The swimming team will compete next at the North Central Conference Championships February 15-18.

CSM Swim Teams Win Home Dual Against Metro State

GOLDEN, Colo. - Both the men's and women's swim teams swam away with team victory's today in the home dual against Metro State. The men scored a 122-80 victory while the women won 129-72.

The Orediggers had many individual titles on both the men's and women's sides. Senior Megan Fry (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) highlighted the women's team with her two individual wins and a relay event. Fry swam to a 2:05.22 win in the 200 yard freestyle and a 58.41 win in the 100 yard freestyle. Fry also was the lead leg in the victourious 400 yard freestlyle relay team, with a time of 3:56.02 Mines outdistanced second place Metro State by seven seconds.

For the men, freshman Andrew Lochow (Lansing,Kan./Leavenworth) also had two individual wins. His wins came in the both the 1000 and 500 yard freestyle. His time of 11:09.42 gave hime more than a minute victory over second place Sutton Reid from Metro in the 1000 freestyle while his time of 5:15.76 outdistanced him from teammate Aaron Boranian (Kailua, Hawaii/Kealakehe)who finished second in the 500.

Swimming will return to action January 27th when they will swim in the Colorado College Classic.

CSM Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams Compete at
Nebraska-Omaha Invitational


OMAHA, Neb. - The men's and women's swimming and Diving teams were on the road this past weekend where they took part in the highly competitive Nebraska-Omaha Invitational.

The women's team finished fifth out of 10 teams with 292 points while the men were fourth out of seven teams with 604 points. The University of Nebraska-Omaha won the women's title with 1,364 points while The University of Wisconsin La Crosse won the men's with 941.50 points.

Both the men's and women's teams were led by top performances in the relay events.

The women's 400 yard Medley Relay team consisting of Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn), Becca Walthall (San Antonio,Texas,Lee), Heather Frenier (Anchorage, Alaska/Service) and Megan Fry (Colorado Springs,Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) finished in fourth place with a time of 4:25.93.

In the same event, the team made up of Darren Ross (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty), Eric Straily (Arvada, Colo./Lakewood), Scott Harrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and Dillon Hamm (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Academy) finished a respective fifth place.

Individually for the Orediggers, divers Simon Demby-Myers (Berea, Ohio/Berea) and Nate Skitt (Westminster, Colo./Westminster) led the way. Demby-Myers finished second in the 1 meter diving with a score of 210.15 while Skitt was second in the 3 meter diving with a score of 189.70.

Next for Mines won't be until after Christmas break when they will host Metro State on January 14th.

CSM SWIM TEAMS COMPETE IN TWO MEETS OVER THE WEEKEND

GOLDEN, Colo. - The men's and women's swim teams were busy competing this past weekend, hosting a meet on Friday and traveling to Wyoming on Saturday to compete.

On Friday night the Orediggers hosted Colorado College. The men swam away with a 197-88 victory while the women came up short 163-131.

Mines then turned around the next day and traveled to Wyoming where they competed in a dual meet against the Cowboys. Both the men's and women's teams fell to the Division I Cowboys, the men lost with a score 124-108 and the women with a score 131-81.

Sophomore Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) continued to lead the way for the women Orediggers as she placed second in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 5:01.33 and first in the 200 Breaststroke (2:35.13).

The swim teams now have two weeks off and then will travel to Nebraska-Omaha December 2 and 3 where they will compete in the Nebraska-Omaha Invitational.

CSM SWIMMING TEAMS COMPETE AT METRO STATE

DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swimming teams competed this past weekend at Metro State. The meet was a six way meet where all athletes swam together and then were scored separately against each team.

The women posted a record of 1-3, beating Metro State and losing to Colorado College, University of Denver and The University of South Dakota. The men posted a 2-2 record beating Metro State, Colorado College and losing to Denver and South Dakota.

The men's team was led by junior swimmer Dillon Hamm (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Academy) and senior diver Nate Skitt (Westminster, Colo./Westminster). Hamm finished third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.93 while Skitt was second in the 3 meter diving event scoring 197.70 points.

Sophomore Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) led the way for the women, finishing second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.83.

Next for the men's and women's swim teams will be at home when they host Colorado College this Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm at Volk Natatorium.

CSM WOMEN'S SWIM TEAM FINISHES SECOND AT METRO STATE

DENVER, Colo - The Colorado School of Mines women's swimming team competed this past weekend at Metro State and finished second out of three teams.

The meet consisted of Mines, Metro State and The University of Nebraska-Omaha. The Orediggers finished second with 52 points behind Nebraska Omaha who won with 137 points; Metro was third with 43 points.

Freshman Becca Walthall led the way with her first place finish in the 200 breaststroke, she won the event with a time of 2:34.36. Sophomore teammate Renee Rainguet finished second in the 400 Individual Medley in a time of 5:02.48.

The Orediggers will return to action Saturday November 12 where both the men and women's teams will compete at Denver University.

CSM SWIMMING TEAMS COMPETE AT AIR FORCE

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.) - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swimming teams competed this past weekend at the Air Force Academy. The meet was a five way meet where all athletes swam together and then were scored separately against each team.

The women posted a record of 3-1, beating Colorado College, The University of Nebraska-Kearney, and Metro State and lost only to Air Force. The men posted a 2-1 record beating Metro State, Colorado College and also lost only to Air Force.

The women were led by sophomore Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) who won the women's 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:11.38.

Dillon Hamm (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Academy) swam away with an individual title for the men, winning the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 23.17.

The women's team will return to action Saturday November 5 when they will be competing at Metro State. The meet will begin at 10:00 am.
