CSM Swim Team Breaks School Records at Conference Championships GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swim teams broke four school records this past weekend at The North Central Conference Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota. On the women's side, Andrea Casias broke the school record in the 1000
meter freestyle. Her time of 11:03.89 set the new CSM record. Also breaking
a school record for the Orediggers was Angel Forsling. Forsling's time
of 32.31 in the 50 meter breast set the new school record. Forsling also
finished in the top eight in the 100 meter breastroke. Jon Amdahl led the men's team, with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 20.92 and CSM record in the men's 50 meter freestyle. Amdahl was also a member of the 200 Freestyle Relay team that finished third with a time of 1:26.68. Taz Ransom, Cliff Preston and Dillon Hamm were the three other member of the team. Also making a top three appearance was Cameron Morris who finished third in the 1650 meter freestyle. As a team, the women finished seventh out of eight teams while the men were fifth of six. TWO CSM DIVERS COMPETE AT AIR FORCE DIVING INVITATIONAL COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two Colorado School of Mines divers competed at the Air Force Diving Invitational on Feb. 2-3. Junior Chandra Lippitt (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) placed 24th with a total of 179.45, while sophomore Simon Demby-Myers (Berea, Ohio/Berea) was 15th with a score of 158.10. The CSM swimming and diving teams will return to action from Feb. 21-24 at the North Central Conference Championships in Grand Forks, N.D. -OREDIGGERS- Mines Swim Teams Finish First at the CC Classic COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Both the men's and women's swim teams swept the team titles this past weekend at The Colorado College Classic. The wins mark the first combined team victory in Coach Hughes' era at an invitational meet. Both the men's and women's squads had many individual victories, while the Mines women won all four relay events. Leading the way for the women was junior Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) who won three events. Rainguet swam to victory in the 400 Individual Medley (4:55.82), the 200 Breaststroke (2:30.92) and the 200 Individual Medley (2:18.69). Also winning events for the women were Angel Forsling (Grand Junction, Colo./Grand Junction) who won the 100 Butterfly (1:00.63) and the 100 Breaststroke (1:09.77) and Heidi Heim (Brighton, Colo./Brighton) in the 200 Butterfly (2:23.36). Chandra Lippitt (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) was the lone diver who won; she dove to victory in the 1 meter diving event. Cameron Morris (Beaverton, Ore./Aloha) and Jon Amdahl (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) both won two events, while Kevin Shaw (Centennial, Colo./Smoky Hill) won one. Morris was victorious in the 200 (1:48.52) and 500 Freestyle event (4:59.58), while Amdahl won both the 50 (21.84) and 100 Freestyle (48.80). Shaw was the winner of the 200 Breaststroke (2:15.53). -OREDIGGERS- CSM Swim Team Wins at Metro DENVER, Colo. - Both the men's and women's swim teams won this past weekend at Metro State College. The Orediggers dominated the two team meet, the men scored a 139-77 victory while the women beat the Roadrunners 151-61. CSM came away with many individual event winners, while both 200 Yard Medley Relay teams were victorious. Angel Forsling led the women with two individual titles in both the 100 and 200 Yard Butterfly. Her time of 2:24.60 was 16 seconds faster than Orediggers Heather Frenier who finished in second. Both Cam Morris and Bo Beins also came away with two event wins. Morris was victorious in the 500 (5:15.67) and 1000 (11:18.90) Yard Freestyle while Beins won both the 100 (54.00) and 200 (2:01.85) Butterfly events. Mines swim team will return to action January 26-28 at the Colorado College Invitational. -OREDIGGERS-
CSM Men's Swim Team Finishes
Second at Omaha Invitational; OMAHA, Neb. - The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's swim team were in action at the Mutual of Omaha Invitational this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska. The CSM men's team came away with a second place team finish while the women were fifth. The men finished in second with 904 points behind The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse who ended with 924 points. Mines had two individuals come away with new school records this weekend. Freshman Andrea Casias (Littleton, Colo./Mullen) broke the school record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:12.83. Renee Rainguet (Golden, Colo./D'Evelyn) also came away with a new school record; her time of 2:28.62 broke the school record in the 200 Breaststroke. Also having notable performances on the weekend were freshmen Kevin Shaw (Centennial, Colo./Smoky Hill) and Cam Morris (Beaverton, Ore./Aloha). Shaw swam to NCAA B cut times in both the 400 Individual Medley (4:09.62) and the 200 Breaststroke (2:09.17). He will now have to wait and see if these times will be good enough to get him to the National Meet. Morris won both the 1000 and 1650 Freestyle events. The Orediggers won't be in action until after the holidays, when they will compete at the Air Force Academy on January 6th. -OREDIGGERS- CSM SWIM TEAMS WIN HOME OPENER GOLDEN, Colo. - Both the Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swimming and diving teams won their 2006 home meet openers on Saturday afternoon in Volk Natatorium. The Oredigger men defeated Colorado College, while the women's team picked up wins over Colorado College and Mesa State. For the men, the Orediggers won every event except the 100 Backstroke. Freshman Austin Melton (Loveland, Colo./Cherry Creek) won the 100 Fly with a North Central Conference best time of 53.08. In addition, senior Dillon Hamm (Arvada, Colo./Jefferson Academy) posted a win in the 200 Free and was also the anchor on the winning 4x100 free relay team with a season-best split of 49.01. Freshman Kevin Shaw (Centennial, Colo./Smoky Hill), Bo Beins (Wichita, Kan./Heights) and Jon Amdahl (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) each won two events. Shaw won the 200 Breast and 400 IM, Beins claimed the 200 Fly and 200 Back, while Amdahl won the 50 and 100 Free. WEEKEND DENVER, Colo. - The men's and women's swim teams both finished 2-2 this weekend at the University of Denver's dual meet. Both the men's and women's teams were scored up against four separate teams. These teams included Metro State, Colorado College, The Air Force Academy and The University of Denver. The men finished the meet beating two of the four teams, they scored victories over both Colorado College and Metro State, while they fell short to both Air Force and DU. Mines beat CC 136-54 and Metro 107-85. Air Force beat the Orediggers 142-52 while DU scored a 163-53 win. The women finished the same as the men, beating CC 144-38 and Metro 131-36 and falling to Air Force 147-62 and DU 141-64. The men's team was led by Freshman Jon Amdahl's third place finish in the 50 yard Freestyle, his time of 21.77 was third behind Denver's Michael Peterson who won the race in a time of 21.35. For the women, Freshman Andrea Casias finished third in the 100 yard Backstroke with a time of 1:03.72 just two seconds off of the winning time of 1:01.47. Teammate, Heidi Heim also faired well in this event, finishing sixth in a time of 1:06.28. Heim's best race of the day however came in the 100 Yard Butterfly, as she barely finished third with a time of 1:02.87 compared to first place's time of 1:02.21. Also competing well for the women were Renee Rainguet and Angel Forsling, the two finished fourth and fifth in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. Rainguet's time of 2:19.81 put her just one second infront of Forslings's 2:20.97. Next for the swim teams will be November 11 when they will compete in their first home meet of the season, when they host Colorado College and Mesa State on the women's side only. Finish First for Division II Schools FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swim teams took part in the Early Bird Invitational hosted by Colorado State University Saturday afternoon. Both the men and women's teams finished first out of Division II teams, both teams beat Metro State, to finish on top for Division II schools. The women finished with 153 points, ahead of Metro's 83.50, while the men ended with 596 points compared to Metro's 437.50. The women were sixth overall in the seven team meet and the men were third out of four. Colorado State University won on the women's team title, while The University of Wyoming took home the first for the men. The men's team was led by Freshman Kevin Shaw who finished second in the 200 yard Breaststroke, his time of 2:17.55 was four seconds behind Wyoming's Dan Jones. Also competing well for Mines was Freshman Austin Melton who finished third in both the 100 yard Butterfly (53.24) and the 100 yard Breaststroke (103.20). Mines will return to action Friday with a meet at The University of Denver. -OREDIGGERS- |
