MINES TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT RMAC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines outdoor track and field teams were in action from May 8-10 at the 2005 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at Rex Stadium on the campus of Adams State College. The CSM men placed fifth of seven teams with 55 points, while the Oredigger women were sixth of seven with 24.5 points. Leading the way for the men's squad was senior Jared Peacock (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) who won the 400-meter dash with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 46.9. His time was also good enough to tie the RMAC record set in 2000 by Dayven Johnston of Colorado School of Mines. Peacock was also third in the 200-meters with a time of 21.77. For his efforts, Peacock was chosen as the RMAC Co-Nominee for Regional Athlete of the Year along with Celedonio Rodriguez of Adams State. For the CSM women, junior Hannah Davey (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) paced the squad as she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a stadium record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:23.83. Davey is the defending Division II National Champion in the event. She also placed third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:54.63. The individuals will now await word from the NCAA to see if their times and marks from this season have qualified them for the NCAA Division II National Championships which will be contested from May 26-28 in Abilene, Texas. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
