ADAMS STATE SWEEPS RMAC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD TITLES GOLDEN, Colo. - The Adams State men's and women's indoor track and field teams swept the 2007 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships contested Friday and Saturday at Steinhauer Fieldhouse. The ASC men won their fourth straight title and 10th overall with a record 209 points. The point total was two better than the old record of 207 set in 2005. The Grizzly women also totaled 209 points as they claimed their sixth straight title and 15th overall. Western State finished second on the men's side with 120.5 points and was followed by Chadron State (120), Nebraska-Kearney (112.50), Colorado School of Mines (67), UC-Colorado Springs (23) and Metro State (7). Chadron State finished as runner-up on the men's side with 160 points. The Eagles were followed by Western State (142), Nebraska-Kearney (81), Colorado School of Mines (44) and UC-Colorado Springs (20). Both Grizzly Distance Medley Relay Teams recorded NCAA Automatic qualifying times. The women finished in 12:05.41, while the men recorded a time of 9:53.09 to also break the fieldhouse record. ASC's Nick Lara, who was named the Male Athlete of the Meet as well as the RMAC Track Athlete of the Year, broke the fieldhouse record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.94. Reuben Chebon-Mwei of Adams State was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year after winning the mile run in a time of 4:17.86. UNK's Lance Pfeiffer set a fieldhouse record and an NCAA automatic mark with his throw of 18.41 meters in the shot put. He was selected as the RMAC Field Athlete of the Year. On the women's side, CSM's Heather Beresford was named the Female Athlete of the Meet and the RMAC Track Athlete of the Year. She captured the mile run with a provisional qualifying time of 5:05.96 and also won the 800-meters with a provisional time of 2:15.31. TiaNiecia Mosley of Adams State was named the Female Field Athlete of the Year winning three events. She won the 60-meter hurdles in an RMAC meet record 8.80 seconds, the long jump (6.12 m) and the triple jump (12.2 m). All three marks were provisional qualifying times. Adams State Head Coach Damon Martin was selected as the RMAC Coach of the Year for both the men and women. -- OREDIGGERS -- |
