CSM VOLLEYBALL TOPS CHADRON, 3-1, ON SENIOR NIGHT

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team ended its season with a 3-1 triumph over Chadron State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday night in Volk Gymnasium on Senior Night. Game scores were 30-21, 30-24, 17-30, 30-25.

Seniors Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) and Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) led the way for Mines in what was the final match of their careers. Hesseltine notched a double-double with 11 kills and 26 digs, while Ramsay posted 13 kills and five blocks. Hesseltine concludes her career with 1,324 digs, which ranks second all-time at Mines and just three from the all-time record of 1,327 held by Jamie Henderson.

In addition to the seniors, sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Dubai/Dubai UAE) recorded a game-best 15 kills and five digs. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) tallied 12 kills and 15 digs, while freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) totaled 51 assists, seven digs and five service aces.

Chadron (17-9, 9-9 RMAC) was paced by Amanda Green who recorded a team-high 12 kills. Alysia Wardyn amassed 11 kills and six digs, while Shelly Kraus added 36 assists and Kelly Kraus contributed a game-high 32 digs.

Mines concludes its season with an overall mark of 11-16, including 7-12 in conference play.

OREDIGGER VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT REGIS, 3-1

DENVER, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Regis in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Tuesday night at the Regis Fieldhouse. Game scores were 30-20, 28-30, 30-26, 30-18.

Mines received a double-double effort from senior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) as she posted 12 kills and 13 digs to go along with two assists and a service ace. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) added a team-high 14 kills and eight digs, while sophomore outside hitter Missy Engbarth (Fort Lupton, Colo./Fort Lupton) contributed a team-high 15 digs in the losing effort.

Holly Yamada paced Regis (12-15, 10-8 RMAC) with a game-high 16 kills and 20 digs. Julianna Bailey added 14 kills and a game-best 22 digs, while Laura Bisio and Sarah Jackson also reached double figures in kills with 13 and 11, respectively. Jessica Robinson amassed 34 assists for the Rangers.

CSM (10-16, 6-12 RMAC) will conclude its season on Friday night when it hosts Chadron State at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

CSM VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO METRO STATE, 3-0

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to second-ranked Metro State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday evening in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-18-30-21, 30-16. The Roadrunners also outhit Mines, (.364 to .080) in claiming the win.

CSM was led by senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) who tallied nine kills and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) totaled seven kills and three blocks, while senior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) amassed six kills, three assists and tied for team-high honors with 12 digs.

Metro (21-5, 15-1 RMAC) was led by Shawna Gilbert’s 14 kill performance. Renee Hazlewood and Jessy Roy each contributed 10 kills, while Hazlewood also totaled a game-high 21 digs. Devon Herron recorded 43 assists, six digs and four kills.

Mines (10-15, 6-11 RMAC) will return to action on Tuesday when it travels to Regis for a 7:00 pm match.

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball squad picked up a 3-1 victory over Colorado Christian in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-26, 30-17, 30-23, 30-21.

Mines sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) recorded a game-high 20 kills to go along with eight digs, five assists and three blocks. Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) and freshman middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) each tallied 12 kills, while senior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) registered seven kills, two aces and 12 digs.

Sophomore libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Shawnee, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) amassed a game and career-best 36 digs, while freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) totaled 56 assists and nine digs.

Emily Miller and Amy Corder led the Cougars with 15 kills apiece, while Becky Mogle contributed 10. Erin Smith tallied 43 assists and 10 digs, while Susanna Seawright notched a game-best 24 digs.

Mines (10-14, 6-10 RMAC) will return to action on Friday night when it plays host to second-ranked Metro State at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team dropped its second straight road match of the weekend with a 3-0 setback at 10th-ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday night. Game scores were 30-20, 30-19, 30-16.

CSM sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) produced a team-high nine kills and three digs. Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) tallied eight kills, two digs and two blocks, while freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) totaled 27 assists and seven digs.

Erin Gudmundson amassed a game-high 13 kills, while Erin Arnold tallied 10 kills and four service aces. Bethany Spilde recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.

The Orediggers (9-14, 5-10 RMAC) will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Colorado Christian at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

MINES VOLLEYBALL FALLS AT FORT HAYS STATE, 3-2

HAYS, Kan. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets in program history, but was defeated by 21st-ranked Fort Hays State, 3-2, on Friday afternoon in Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers won the first game, 30-19, but Mines rallied with two straight wins (30-28 and 30-18) to take a 2-1 lead. However, FHSU pulled out 30-17 and 15-10 wins to earn the victory.

Mines sophomour outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) tied for game-high honors with 18 kills to go along with 13 digs. Senior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) also registered a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, while senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) produced 10 kills.

Freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) amassed a double-double with 44 assists and 14 digs, while sophomore libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Shawnee, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) tallied a game-high 22 digs.

Darshaya Mustacchio led the Tigers with 18 kills and five digs. Patricia Gomes added a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs, while Jayme Eichner totaled 56 assists, 12 digs and two aces.

Mines (9-13, 5-9 RMAC) will return to action Saturday night when they travel to Nebraska-Kearney for a 7:00 pm match.

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team completed a perfect weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Colorado State-Pueblo in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-15, 30-21, 30-23.

The Orediggers had a very balanced offensive attack as senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs), sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) and freshman middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) all tied for team-high honors with eight kills.

Senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) registered seven kills, a team-best 12 digs and two assists, while freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) totaled 32 assists and eight digs.

CSU-Pueblo (6-16, 4-9 RMAC) was led by Samantha Connelly who produced nine kills and 13 digs. Meagan Stater added seven kills and five digs, while Amber Jessen tallied 32 assists.

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team picked up its third straight and second consecutive sweep with a 3-0 triumph over CU-Colorado Springs in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Saturday night in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-27, 30-28, 30-26.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) led Mines with a game-high 13 kills, four blocks and a service ace. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) tallied 12 kills and three digs, while freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) amassed 42 assists and 10 digs for a double-double.

Linnlee Hansen registered 11 kills and six digs for the Mountain Lions. Kristen Denman totaled nine kills and six digs, while Lindsey Hillegass amassed 24 assists and six digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) paced Mines with 12 kills, four digs and four blocks. Senior right side Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) recorded nine kills, four assists, three aces and nine digs, while freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) amassed team-highs in assists (28) and digs (11).

Kindy Peterson led the Cowgirls (8-11, 5-7 RMAC) with 19 kills and 11 digs. Audra Williams contributed 10 kills and nine digs, while Katie Peterson tallied 40 assists and 12 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) led Mines with 18 kills and seven digs. She totaled 40 kills (22 at Adams State) in the Orediggers two matches this weekend. In addition, senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) and sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Dubai/Dubai UAE) also reached double digits in kills with 14 and 12 respectively.

Freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) registered a double-double with 48 assists and 15 digs, while freshman outside hitter Sarah Rickard (Palisade, Colo./Palisade) amassed a team-best 16 digs.

Moreen Baylis paced the Skyhawks (7-11, 2-8 RMAC) with 25 kills and nine digs. Morgan Levings and Laurie Dressel tallied 13 kills apiece, while Annie Mortensen dished out 53 assists to go along with eight digs.

Mines (6-12, 2-8 RMAC) will return to action on Friday night when it hosts New Mexico Highlands at 7:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.

ALAMOSA, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team was defeated by Adams State, 3-2, in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon in Plachy Hall. Game scores were 28-30, 30-26, 30-27, 28-30, 15-12.

Mines sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) notched a game and career-high 22 kills to go along with 17 digs to pace the Orediggers. Senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) added a double-double with 17 kills and 14 digs, while freshman setter Katherin Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) amassed 68 assists and nine digs.

The Orediggers, who hit .250 for the match, also received 16 kills from sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Dubai/Dubai UAE), 14 kills from freshman middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) and 10 kills and seven blocks from senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs).

Amy Cousin led the Grizzlies (12-5, 6-3 RMAC) with 16 kills and nine digs. Lydia Smith (16), Marissa Sullivan (14), Emily Bussey (12) and Cydell Tuck (10) also reached double-figures in kills. Carly Simpson tallied 64 assists, while Tawny Peters added a game-best 26 digs for the Grizzlies who hit .230 for the match.

GUNNISON, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to Western State at Paul Wright Gym in Saturday night in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action. The Mountaineers captured the first two games, 30-24 and 30-24. CSM rallied to take game three, 30-19, as it hit .372 for the game. But Western closed out the match with a 30-25 victory in game four.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) led the way with 14 kills and four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) and freshman middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) also notched double figures in kills with 12 and 11 respectivley.

Freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) tallied a double-double with 41 assists and 14 digs, while sophomore libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Shawnee, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a match-high 22 digs.

Sarah McKinley paced Western with 20 kills and 12 digs. Heather Adams registered 15 kills, while Chelsea Harmon amassed 53 assists and 13 digs.

VICTORY, 3-0, AT MESA STATE

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team earned its first conference victory of the season with a convincing 3-0 win at Mesa State in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Friday night. Game scores were 30-23, 30-23, 32-30.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) paced the Oredigger offense as she tallied a team-high 12 kills against just one error in 16 attempts (.688). Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) notched nine kills and 11 digs, while senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) recorded seven kills and 13 digs.

Freshman setter Katherine Muterspaugh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) finished with a double-double as she finished with game-bests in assists (35) and digs (19).

Nikki Green led the Mavericks (6-9, 3-4 RMAC) with a game-high 14 kills and 10 digs. Rosa Masler notched 11 kills and 13 digs, while Kristen Reece (18) and Laura Mason (19) combined for 37 assists and eight digs.

Regis (4-10, 2-3 RMAC) was led by Holly Yamada who produced a game-best 19 kills and also contributed eight digs. Laura Bisco and Sarah Jackson also reached double digits in kills with 12 and 11, respectively, while Julianna Bailey chipped in with five kills and a game-best 20 digs.

Mines (4-10, 0-6 RMAC) is slated to return to action next Friday when it travels to Mesa State for a 7:00 pm match.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) led Mines with 18 kills and four blocks, while hitting at a .432 clip. Freshman middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) totaled 15 kills and seven digs, while sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) also reach double figures in kills with 14.

Sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) amassed a game-high 61 assists, while sophomore libero Sarah Alsbrooks (Shawnee, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) registered a game-best 26 digs.

Chadron State (10-3, 2-3 RMAC) was paced by Alysia Wardyn who recorded a game-high 19 kills. Kelly Kraus added a double-double with 15 kills and 19 digs, while Shelly Kraus added six kills, 51 assists, three aces and 10 digs.

Mines (4-9, 0-5 RMAC) is slated to return to action on Friday night when it hosts Regis for a 7:00 pm RMAC match in Volk Gymnasium.

CSM VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO MATCHES OVER THE WEEKEND

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team dropped a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches over the weekend and fell to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play. On Friday, the Orediggers fell, 3-0, at fifth-ranked Metro State and then came back on Saturday night and lost at Colorado Christian, 3-2.

Game scores against Metro were 31-29, 30-28, 30-16, while the scores against the Cougars were 29-31, 31-29, 30-19, 22-30, 15-11.

Leading the way for Mines was freshman middle blcoker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) who totaled 22 kills and 11 blocks in the two matches. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) registered 19 kills and 29 digs, while senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) amassed 21 kills and five blocks for the weekend.

Sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) totaled 90 assists in the two matches.

CSM will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Chadron State for a 5:00 pm match. Mines will then return home to take on Regis at 7:00 pm Friday night in Volk Gymnasium.

GOLDEN, Colo. -- Nebraska Kearney’s Erin Brosz tallied 13 kills and Erin Arnold added 10 to help lead the 16th-ranked Lopers to a 3-0 win over Colorado Mines in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball action Saturday evening in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-21, 30-20, 30-15.

The Orediggers (4-6, 0-2 RMAC) were led by sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) who tallied a team-high eight kills and five digs. Freshman middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) added six kills and two blocks, while sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) amassed 27 assists.

In addtion to Brosz and Arnold, Erin Gudmundson registered six kills, three digs and an ace, while Bethany Spilde recorded a double-double with 37 assists and 12 digs for the Lopers (9-2, 2-0).

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team lost its conference opener, 3-1, to Fort Hays State on Friday evening in Volk Gymnasium. The Orediggers picked up a 30-22 win in the first game, but the Tigers rallied to win the final three games, 30-28, 30-16, 30-17.

CSM (4-5, 0-1 RMAC) was led by sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) who produced a team-best 11 kills to go along with 12 digs and four blocks. Senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) also recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, while freshman middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) amassed nine kills and four blocks.

The Tigers (10-0, 1-0 RMAC) were led by Andrea Logan’s 18-kill, seven dig performance. Patricia Gomes (12) and Amber Zoglman (11) also reached double-digits in kills, while Jayme Eichner tallied 50 assists for the victors.

Mines is slated to return to action on Saturday evening when it hosts Nebraska-Kearney for a 7:00 pm match in Volk Gymnasium. The Lopers knocked off Chadron State, 3-1, on Friday night.

PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team evened its record at 4-4 with a 3-1 victory over Texas A&M Commerce on Saturday afternoon at the Quality Inn Suites/Trane/Thunderwolf Invitational contested at Massari Arena on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. Game scores were 30-25, 28-30, 30-7, 30-18. Mines finished the two-day Invitational with a record of 2-2.

Three Orediggers reached double-digits in kills led by freshman middle hitter Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) who tied for game-high honors with 14. Senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) recorded a double-double with 11 kills and a game-best 14 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) added 13 kills.

Chantae Weathers totaled 14 kills to pace Texas A&M Commerce. Amy Wallace added nine kills, while Jessica Dyvig had 11 digs.

OREDIGGER VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO ABILENE CHRISTIAN, 3-0

PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team was knocked off by Abilene Christian, 3-0, on Saturday morning at the Quality Inn Suites/Trane/Thunderwolf Invitational contested at Massari Arena on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. Game scores were 30-14, 30-15, 30-25.

Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) and junior outside hitter Lisa Stice (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) led Mines with five kills apiece, while senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltin (Aurora, Colo./Overland) added a team-best 10 digs.

Abilene (3-4) was paced by Michelle Bernhardt who tallied 14 kills and seven digs, while Amanda Slate added 13 kills for the victors. Haylee Hartline chipped in with a game-high 12 digs, while Lindsey Martin amassed a game-high 40 assists.

Mines will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when it squares off with Texas A&M Commerce at 1:00 pm in the Orediggers final match at the tournament.

MINES VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO CENTRAL OKLAHOMA, 3-1

PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team was defeated by Central Oklahoma on Friday evening, 3-1, at the Quality Inn Suites/Trane/Thunderwolf Invitational contested at Massari Arena on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. Game scores were 30-28, 30-32, 30-24, 30-25.

Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsey (Steamboat Spring, Colo./Steamboat Springs) tallied a team-best 12 kills and two service aces to lead the Orediggers. In addition, sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) and sophomore middle blocker Nina Vollmer (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge) each tallied double-digit kills with 11 and 10 respectively. Sophomore outside hitter Missy Engbarth (Fort Lupton, Colo./Fort Lupton) recorded a game-best 19 digs, while sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) amassed 45 assists.

Central Oklahoma (2-1) was led by 18 kills and five digs from Kim Morgal. Tori Walker added a double-double with 16 kills and 12 digs, while Stacey Meek dished out 49 assists.

Mines will be back in action on Saturday for two matches at the tournament. It will play Abilene Christian at 9:00 am and Texas A&M Commerce at 1:00 pm.

CSM VOLLEYBALL KNOCKS OFF INCARNATE WORD, 3-0

PUEBLO, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team improved to 3-2 with a straight-set victory over Incarnate Word on Friday morning at the Quality Inn Suites/Trane/Thunderwolf Invitational
contested at Massari Arena on the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo. Game scores were 30-24, 30-27, 30-24.

Leading the way for Mines was sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) who posted a game-high nine kills to go along with four digs and four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Kelly Desens (Aurora, Colo./Overland) tallied seven kills and three digs, while sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) dished out 30 assists.

In addtion, Mines senior captains Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) and Lauren Ramsey (Steamboat Spring, Colo./Steamboat Springs) each registered six kills.

Incarnate Word (2-4) was led by eight kills apiece from Kathleen Kernwein and Amanda Carrejo, while Jackie Napoles amassed 20 assists. The Crusaders victimized themselves with 38 attack errors in the match.

Mines will be back in action at 5:00 pm when it plays Central Oklahoma at Massari Arena in its second and final match of the day.

CSM VOLLEYBALL SPLITS TWO MATCHES AT CLASH IN THE FOOTHIILS

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Clash in the Foothills Tournament contested at Volk Gymnasium on Saturday. Mines dropped a 3-1 decision to St. Martin’s and knocked off Western Oregon, 3-1, in the finale.

Game scores against St. Martin’s were 20-30, 30-17, 30-22, 30-18, while the scores against Western Oregon were 31-29, 30-32, 31-29, 30-27.

Leading the way for the Orediggers was senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) who amassed 23 kills, 40 digs and three aces in the two matches.

In the loss to St. Martin’s, senior outside hitter Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) notched a team-leading 13 kills and six blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Samantha Bauer (Lakewood, Colo./Dubai UAE) recorded eight kills.

Bauer came through with 12 kills to pace Mines in the win over Western Oregon. Sophomore middle blocker Nina Vollmer (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge) tallied nine kills and two blocks, while sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) dished out 42 assists.

Mines (2-2) will return to action next weekend when it plays four matches at the CSU-Pueblo Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

OREDIGGER VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO WAYNE STATE, 3-2

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Colorado Mines volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Wayne State University in the second match for both teams during Friday’s Clash in the Foothills Tournament in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-27, 30-20, 23-30, 18-30, 15-9. Earlier in the day, Mines won its season opener, 3-0, over Montata State Billings.

Against Wayne State, freshman middle blocker Amanda Rebol (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) registered a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs to go along with three blocks. In addition, senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) tallied a team-high 13 kills, three digs and 2.5 blocks, while sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) delivered 45 assists, eight digs and two blocks.

Wayne State (1-1) had three players record double-doubles led by Toni Purgatori who amassed a game-best 19 kills and 10 digs. See Hee Hwang added 11 kills and 16 digs, while Rebecca Hague was the third player with a double double as she tallied 44 assists and 17 digs.

Mines (1-1) will return to action for two matches tomorrow to conclude the Clash in the Foothills Tournament. The Orediggers will host St. Martin’s at 2:00 pm and Western Oregon at 6:00 pm. Both matches will be in Volk Gymnasium.

MINES VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON WITH 3-0 WIN OVER MSU-BILLINGS

GOLDEN, Colo. -- The Shelly Johnson era got off to a fabulous start as the first-year head coach led the Colorado Mines volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Montana State-Billings in the season opener for both teams at the Clash in the Foothills Tournament in Volk Gymnasium. Game scores were 32-30, 30-20, 30-15.

Senior outside hitter Sonia Hesseltine (Aurora, Colo./Overland) produced a game-bests in digs (16) and kills (15) to lead the Oredigger attack. Senior middle blocker Lauren Ramsay (Steamboat Springs, Colo./Steamboat Springs) added 13 kills and a service ace, while sophomore setter Patty Wong (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) amassed 48 assists. Mines tallied a .308 hitting percentage for the match.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Olivia Munro’s 14 kills and nine digs. Cortney Metzler added seven kills, while Kari Jones registered 29 assists in the losing effort.

CSM will be back in action once more on Friday night when it hosts Wayne State University (Mich.) for a 6:00 pm match in Volk Gymnasium.
