MINES WRESTLING COMPETES AT COLORADO COLLEGIATES

COMPLETE RESULTS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team competed at the 2005 Colorado Collegiate Championships at Air Force on Saturday. The Orediggers placed fifth with 34 points as they had two third place finishers and three fourth place finishes.

Junior 157-pounder Brian Kinsella (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch), sophomore 149-pounder Nathan Pilcher (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) and sophomore 174-pounder Zach Cornett (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemont) each finished third at their respective weight classes, while senior 125-pounder Jesse Blattner (Golden, Colo./Green Mountain) and senior 165-pounder Peter Jenson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart) each placed fourth.

Kinsella opened the tournament with a fall (2:30) over Dillon Deutsch of Air Force before falling to top-seed Scott Cleve of Adams State in the semifinals. However, Kinsella rebounded to win two matches in the consolation bracket to claim third place.

Cornett also opened with a 6-3 win over Joshua Smith of Air Force before dropping a 10-4 decision to Matt Trout of Western State in the semifinals. Cornett then won two matches in the consolation round to claim third place, including an 8-7 win over James Reynolds of Adams State in the third place match.

CSM returns to action Sunday afternoon when it hosts Portland State at 1:00 pm in Volk Gymnasium.
