ELLER ELIMINATED AT DII NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
KEARNEY, Neb. - Colorado School of Mines senior 133-pounder Garrett Eller (Kremmling, Colo./West Grand) lost his first two matches and was eliminated at the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships on Friday at the Health & Sports Center.
Eller fell to sixth-ranked Shane Perkey of Indianapolis, 13-4, in the opening round and fell into the consolation bracket. In the opening round of the consolation round, Eller lost to third-ranked Jeff Pfaffinger, 13-3, as his run at the national championships came to an end.
Eller, who was making his second career appearance at the Division II Nationals, finished his senior season with a 16-15 record.

CSM WRESTLING COMPETES AT WEST REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team hosted the 2007 NCAA Division II West Regional/RMAC Championships on Sunday in Steinhauer Fieldhouse and Volk Gym.
Senior 133-pounder Garrett Eller (Kremmling, Colo./West Grand) was the lone Oredigger grappler to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships as he placed third in his weight class. It will be Eller's second trip to nationals as he also qualified in 2005.
Eller opened the tournament with a 9-1 win over John Graham of New Mexico Highlands before falling to Marques Bravo of Western State, 4-1, in the semifinals. However, Eller was able to win two matches in the consolation round to finish third.
He defeated Ben Lockett of San Francisco State, 15-5, in the consolation semifinals and then knocked off Derek Patterson of Fort Hays State in the third place match, 6-2.
Eller will return to action at the NCAA Division II National Championships on March 9-10 in Kearney, Neb.

CSM WRESTLING COMPETES AT RENO OPEN
RENO, Nev. - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team was in action last Wednesday at the prestigious Reno Tournament of Champions in the city’s Downtown Convention Center.
Leading the way for CSM was junior 174-pounder Zach Cornett (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemont) who went 1-2 with a fall. Freshman 174-pounder Eric Brennan (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Bear Creek) and junior 157-pounder Ryan Corbett (Aurora, Colo./Wheat Ridge) also posted 1-2 records.
The tournament boasted several Division I teams, as well as several Division II teams ranked in the top-25.
The Orediggers will now take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Jan. 5 when they take on Fort Hays State. The match will take place at Fort Morgan High School.

CSM WRESTLING COMPETES AT BOB SMITH OPEN
HAYS, Kan. - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team competed on Saturday at the Bob Smith Open at Fort Hays State. The team was originally scheduled to compete at the Las Vegas Open, but had to change plans due to travel difficulties.
The Orediggers had two placewinners in junior 174-pounder Zac Cornett (Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemont) and freshman 125-pounder Geoff Meng (Louisville, Colo./Monarch).
Cornett, who was unseeded, opened the tournament with a 3-1 loss, but came back to win six straight matches in the wrestleback round, including two by falls, to finish third at 174 pounds. He defeated Derek Ross of Nebraska-Kearney, 3-1 (SV), in the third place match.
The third-seeded Meng, who earlier this season won the Wyoming Cowboy Open Title, posted a 3-2 record and also had two falls. Meng defeated Devin Schwartz of Fort Hays in the consolation semifinals with a fall (3:08), before losing to Kyle Patton of Fort Hays in the third place match.
CSM seniors 133-pounder Garrett Eller (Kremmling, Colo./West Grand) and senior 157-pounder Nathan Pilcher (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan) each recorded 3-2 marks and came within one match of placing. Both grapplers fell in the consolation semifinals.
The Orediggers will return to action on Friday when they travel to Air Force for a 7:00 pm nonconference match.

CSM WRESTLING OPENS SEASON AT WYOMING COWBOY OPEN
LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team opened the 2006-07 season on Saturday afternoon by competing at the Wyoming Cowboy Open.
Freshman 125-pounder Geoff Meng (Louisville, Colo./Monarch) was the top finisher for CSM as he won the Amateur 125-pound title by going a perfect 4-0.
Meng opened the tournament by defeating Noah Grovenstein of Northwest with a fall in just 40 seconds. He then defeated Eddie Lopez of Western State, 6-3, before knocking off Stephen Reynolds of Mesa State, 5-2, in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Meng picked up a 9-5 win over Darren Hockett of Western State to complete his perfect weekend.
CSM will return to action on Saturday when it hosts the 13-team Jack Hancock Dual Invitational in Steinhauer Fieldhouse. Action is slated to begin at 9:30 am.
