Four Orediggers place at RMAC Championships / West Regional

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (Mar. 1, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines had four individuals place at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Wrestling Championships / NCAA Division II West Regionals on Saturday, March 1st, at the Wilson Complex on the campus of New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. Jamie Sheets went 2-2 with one fall in the 149-lb. bracket and took fourth place. Sheets, however, lost in the true fourth place match to Josh Nolan of San Francisco State University and will not be going to NCAA Division II Nationals (March 14th & 15th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa).

Brennen Knerr compiled a 2-2 mark at the RMAC Championships / NCAA Division II West Regional to capture fifth place. Chad Lousberg (125 lbs.; 2-3 with one fall) and Cody Weitzel (141 lbs.; 1-3 with one fall) each recorded sixth-place finishes in their respective weight classes, as well.

Kellen Costelow (133 lbs.; 0-2), Mike Brown (157 lbs.; 0-2), Nathan McClain (165 lbs.; 0-2), Zac Cornett (174 lbs.; 1-2), Bobby Strain (184 lbs.; 1-2 with one fall) and Bryan Stansbury (HWT; 0-2) also competed for the Orediggers at the RMAC Championships / NCAA Division II West Regional.

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 20, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines defeated Mesa State College by the score of 31-16 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling action on Wednesday night, February 20th, at Volk Gymnasium. For complete results, click here.

Cody Weitzel (141 lbs.; now 13-12 overall), Jamie Sheets (149 lbs.; now 6-8 overall), Zac Cornett (174 lbs.; now 8-13 overall), Brennen Knerr (197 lbs.; now 16-9 overall), Bryan Stansbury (HWT; now 7-10 overall), Chad Lousberg (125 lbs.; now 15-9 overall) and Chris Saykally (133 lbs., now 5-7 overall) all registered victories for the Orediggers. With the win, Colorado School of Mines concludes its 2007-08 dual schedule at 5-10-0 overall (4-6-0 RMAC).

Taylor Torisk (157 lbs.; now 11-7 overall), Cole Johnson (165 lbs.; now 8-8 overall) and Andy Laiminger (184 lbs.; now 8-17 overall) came away with wins for Mesa State (1-17-0 overall, 0-8-0 RMAC).

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 16, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines defeated New Mexico Highlands University by the score of 24-15 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Saturday evening, February 16th, at Volk Gymnasium. For complete results, click here.

Bobby Strain (184 lbs.; now 5-17 overall), Brennen Knerr (197 lbs.; now 15-9 overall), Chad Lousberg (125 lbs.; now 14-9 overall), Kellen Costelow (133 lbs.; now 10-8 overall), Cody Weitzel (141 lbs.; now 12-12 overall) and Jamie Sheets (149 lbs.; now 5-8 overall) all registered victories for the Orediggers (4-10-0 overall, 3-6-0 RMAC). Weitzel's victory, his second in as many nights, came over the eighth-ranked 141-lb. wrestler in NCAA Division II, Ross Montour.

With the loss, the NMHU Cowboys fell to 7-13-0 (3-5-0 RMAC).

The Orediggers will conclude the regular-season portion of their 2007-08 dual schedule by hosting Mesa State College in an RMAC dual on Wednesday evening, February 20th, at 7:00 p.m. at Volk Gym.

CSM will then compete in the RMAC Championships / NCAA Division II West Regionals on Saturday, March 1st, at N.M. Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M.

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 15, 2008) - Western State College defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 30-12 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Friday evening, February 15th, at Volk Gymnasium. For complete results, click here.

With the victory, the fifth-ranked (NCAA Division II) Mountaineers improve their 2007-08 overall dual record to 16-3-1 (6-1-0 RMAC).

#16 Chadron State gets past Orediggers, 24-15

CHADRON, Neb. (Feb. 9, 2008) - Chadron State College (12-9-1 overall, 4-3-0 RMAC), tied for 16th in the latest NCAA Division II national wrestling rankings, defeated Colorado School of Mines (3-9-0 overall, 2-5-0 RMAC) by the score of 24-15 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Saturday evening, February 9th, at the Nelson Physical Activity Center. CSM's Chad Lousberg (125 lbs.; now 12-9 overall), Kellen Costelow (133 lbs.; now 9-7 overall), Cody Weitzel (141 lbs.; 10-12 overall) and Mike Brown (157 lbs.; 4-9 overall) all registered victories for the Orediggers.

Third-ranked Adams State defeats CSM, 34-12

GOLDEN, Colo. (Feb. 8, 2008) - Adams State College defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 34-12 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Friday evening, February 8th, at Volk Gymnasium. For complete results, click here.

Brennen Knerr (197 lbs.; now 14-7 overall), Bryan Stansbury (HWT; now 5-8 overall) and Kellen Costelow (133 lbs.; now 8-7 overall) all registered victories for the Orediggers, who fell to 3-8-0 overall (2-4-0 RMAC).

With the victory, the third-ranked (NCAA Division II) Grizzlies improve their 2007-08 dual record to 10-1-0 overall (8-0-0 RMAC).

The Orediggers will compete at 16th-ranked (tied) Chadron State College on Saturday evening, February 9th, in an RMAC dual at the Nelson Physical Activity Center in Chadron, Neb.

Fourth-ranked UNK defeats Mines, 42-3

KEARNEY, Neb. (Feb. 2, 2008) - The fourth-ranked (NCAA Division II) University of Nebraska - Kearney Lopers defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 42-3 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 2nd, at Cushing Coliseum on the UNK campus. Kellen Costelow (7-7 overall, 4-2 in duals) registered the Orediggers' lone victory, defeating UNK's Michael Abril by the score of 9-6 in the 133-lb. division.

Nebraska - Kearney improved to 9-3 overall (3-0 RMAC) while CSM fell to 3-7 overall (2-3 RMAC).

The Orediggers will host their first home dual of the 2007-08 season on Friday, Feb. 8th, at 7:00 p.m. at Volk Gymnasium against conference rival Adams State. Mines will travel to Chadron State for another RMAC dual on Saturday evening, Feb. 9th.

U.S. Air Force Academy defeats Mines, 39-3

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 25, 2008) - The United States Air Force Academy (NCAA Division I) defeated Colorado School of Mines (NCAA Division II) by the score of 39-3 in non-conference NCAA collegiate wrestling action on Friday evening, Jan. 25th, at Clune Arena / East Gym in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Kellen Costelow (now 6-7 overall) registered the Orediggers' lone victory, defeating USAFA's Derek Gillespie by the score of 10-8 in the 133-lb. division.

Both schools are now 3-6 overall in 2007-08 dual competition.

CSM will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, with a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) dual at Nebraska - Kearney (Cushing Coliseum).

The Orediggers will also host their first home dual of the 2007-08 season on Friday, Feb. 8th, at 7:00 p.m. at Volk Gymnasium against conference rival Adams State. Mines will travel to Chadron State for another RMAC dual on Saturday, Feb. 9th.

Lousberg claims 125-lb. title at Hastings College Open;
Seven other Orediggers place in top five

HASTINGS, Neb. (Jan. 12, 2007) - A total of 15 student-athletes from the Colorado School of Mines wrestling team, as well as five unattached Orediggers, competed in the inaugural Hastings College Open on Saturday, Jan. 12th, at Lynn Farrell Arena. For complete results, click here.

Chad Lousberg posted an unblemished 3-0 record (one fall) to take top honors in the 125-lb. division. Kellen Costelow (3-1, one fall; 133 lbs.), Zac Cornett (3-1, one fall; 174 lbs.) and Brenner Knerr (3-1, one fall; 197 lbs.) each took third place in their respective weight classes, while Cody Weitzel (4-2, one fall; 141 lbs.) and Ryan Sprackling (3-2, one fall; 149 lbs.) both brought home fourth-place finishes.

Jamie Sheets (4-2, two falls; 149 lbs.) and Bryan Stansbury (2-2, one fall; HWT) garnered fifth place showings, as well.

Claire DuPont (1-2; 125 lbs.), Chris Saykally (1-2; 133 lbs.), Mike Brown (1-2, one fall; 157 lbs.), Nathan McClain (0-2; 165 lbs.), Bobby Strain (2-2; 184 lbs.), Ross Melton (1-2, one fall; 197 lbs.) and Sean Studer (1-3; HWT) also competed on Saturday afternoon in Hastings.

CSM will travel to the U.S. Air Force Academy (NCAA Division I) for a non-conference dual against the Falcons on Friday, Jan. 25th, at Clune Arena / East Gym in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

#17 Fort Hays State University defeats CSM, 39-6

HAYS, Kan. (Jan. 4, 2008) - The Fort Hays State University Tigers, ranked 17th in the nation (NCAA Division II), defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 39-6 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Friday evening, Jan. 4th, at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Chad Lousberg posted the lone victory for Colorado School of Mines (2-5 overall, 2-2 RMAC), recording a fall in 6:39.

Colorado School of Mines will next be in action on Friday, Jan. 11th, with a non-conference dual at York College (NAIA) in York, Nebraska. The Orediggers will also compete in the Hastings College Open on Saturday, Jan. 12th, in Hastings, Nebraska.

CSM's Kellen Costelow recorded a 5-3 victory in the 133-lb. match while heavyweight Bryan Stansbury pinned his opponent in 2:27. Brennen Knerr was awarded a forfeit victory, as well, as the Orediggers fell to 2-4 overall. Results are posted below.

The Orediggers (0-1 RMAC) will compete at Fort Hays State University on Friday, Jan. 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference dual at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays, Kan.

San Francisco State edges Mines, 21-20;
Seven Orediggers compete at Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Dec. 1, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team opened up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) portion of its 2007-08 schedule with a one-point loss (21-20) to San Francisco State University on Thursday, Nov. 29th, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30th and Dec. 1st, seven Orediggers (Zac Cornett, Kellen Costelow, Brennen Knerr, Chad Lousberg, Ryan Sprackling, Bobby Strain and Cody Weitzel) competed in the Cliff Keen Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center. CSM records 2-2 mark at Jack Hancock Dual Invitational

GOLDEN, Colo. (Nov. 17, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team posted a 2-2 record at the Jack Hancock Dual Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 17th, at Volk Gymnasium. For complete results, click here.

Mines (2-2 overall, 2-0 RMAC) opened the event with losses to the University of Oregon (29-12) and Utah Valley State College (37-3) before defeating Mesa State College (36-18) and Grand Canyon University (36-12).

Chad Lousberg went 3-1 with a pair of falls while Brennen Knerr, who captured the title in the 197-lb. Amateur Division at the 2007 Cowboy Open on Nov. 10th, was undefeated in four bouts and improved his season mark to 8-0. Cody Weitzel, Mike Brown, Zac Cornett and Sean Studer also registered two victories at the Jack Hancock Invitational.

CSM will begin the RMAC portion of it's dual schedule by competing against San Francisco State University on Thursday, Nov. 29th, in Las Vegas, Nev. (Las Vegas Convention Center). The Orediggers will also participate in Cliff Keen Invitational on Friday and Saturday, November 30th and December 1st, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (Nov. 10, 2007) - Thirteen Orediggers competed in the 2007 Cowboy Open (University of Wyoming host) on Saturday, Nov. 10th, in Laramie, Wyo. For complete results, click here.

Brennen Knerr went 4-0 and brought home the title in the 197-lb. Amateur Division, while Chad Lousberg went 3-1 with a pair of falls en route to placing second in the 125-lb. Amateur Division.
