Four Orediggers place at RMAC Championships / West Regional LAS VEGAS, N.M. (Mar. 1, 2008) - Colorado School of Mines had four individuals place at the 2008 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Wrestling Championships / NCAA Division II West Regionals on Saturday, March 1st, at the Wilson Complex on the campus of New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M. For complete results, click here. Jamie Sheets went 2-2 with one fall in the 149-lb. bracket and took fourth place. Sheets, however, lost in the true fourth place match to Josh Nolan of San Francisco State University and will not be going to NCAA Division II Nationals (March 14th & 15th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa). Brennen Knerr compiled a 2-2 mark at the RMAC Championships / NCAA Division II West Regional to capture fifth place. Chad Lousberg (125 lbs.; 2-3 with one fall) and Cody Weitzel (141 lbs.; 1-3 with one fall) each recorded sixth-place finishes in their respective weight classes, as well. Kellen Costelow (133 lbs.; 0-2), Mike Brown (157 lbs.; 0-2), Nathan McClain (165 lbs.; 0-2), Zac Cornett (174 lbs.; 1-2), Bobby Strain (184 lbs.; 1-2 with one fall) and Bryan Stansbury (HWT; 0-2) also competed for the Orediggers at the RMAC Championships / NCAA Division II West Regional. (Feb. 9, 2008) - Chadron State College (12-9-1 overall, 4-3-0 RMAC), tied for 16th in the latest NCAA Division II national wrestling rankings, defeated Colorado School of Mines (3-9-0 overall, 2-5-0 RMAC) by the score of 24-15 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Saturday evening, February 9th, at the Nelson Physical Activity Center. (Feb. 2, 2008) - The fourth-ranked (NCAA Division II) University of Nebraska - Kearney Lopers defeated Colorado School of Mines by the score of 42-3 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) wrestling dual on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 2nd, at Cushing Coliseum on the UNK campus. For complete results, click here. Kellen Costelow (7-7 overall, 4-2 in duals) registered the Orediggers' lone victory, defeating UNK's Michael Abril by the score of 9-6 in the 133-lb. division. Nebraska - Kearney improved to 9-3 overall (3-0 RMAC) while CSM fell to 3-7 overall (2-3 RMAC). The Orediggers will host their first home dual of the 2007-08 season on Friday, Feb. 8th, at 7:00 p.m. at Volk Gymnasium against conference rival Adams State. Air Force Academy defeats
Mines, 39-3 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 25, 2008) - The United States Air Force Academy (NCAA Division I) defeated Colorado School of Mines (NCAA Division II) by the score of 39-3 in non-conference NCAA collegiate wrestling action on Friday evening, Jan. 25th, at Clune Arena / East Gym in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For complete results, click here. Kellen Costelow (now 6-7 overall) registered the Orediggers' lone victory, defeating USAFA's Derek Gillespie by the score of 10-8 in the 133-lb. division. Both schools are now 3-6 overall in 2007-08 dual competition. CSM will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, with a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) dual at Nebraska - Kearney (Cushing Coliseum). The Orediggers will also host their first home dual of the 2007-08 season on Friday, Feb. 8th, at 7:00 p.m. at Volk Gymnasium against conference rival Adams State. (Jan. 12, 2007) - A total of 15 student-athletes from the Colorado School of Mines wrestling team, as well as five unattached Orediggers, competed in the inaugural Hastings College Open on Saturday, Jan. 12th, at Lynn Farrell Arena. Kellen Costelow (3-1, one fall; 133 lbs.), Zac Cornett (3-1, one fall; 174 lbs.) and Brenner Knerr (3-1, one fall; 197 lbs.) each took third place in their respective weight classes, while Cody Weitzel (4-2, one fall; 141 lbs.) and Ryan Sprackling (3-2, one fall; 149 lbs.) both brought home fourth-place finishes. (Dec. 1, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team opened up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) portion of its 2007-08 schedule with a one-point loss (21-20) to San Francisco State University on Thursday, Nov. 29th, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30th and Dec. 1st, seven Orediggers (Zac Cornett, Kellen Costelow, Brennen Knerr, Chad Lousberg, Ryan Sprackling, Bobby Strain and Cody Weitzel) competed in the Cliff Keen Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center. (Nov. 17, 2007) - The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team posted a 2-2 record at the Jack Hancock Dual Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 17th, at Volk Gymnasium. For complete results, click here. Mines (2-2 overall, 2-0 RMAC) opened the event with losses to the University of Oregon (29-12) and Utah Valley State College (37-3) before defeating Mesa State College (36-18) and Grand Canyon University (36-12). Chad Lousberg went 3-1 with a pair of falls while Brennen Knerr, who captured the title in the 197-lb. Amateur Division at the 2007 Cowboy Open on Nov. 10th, was undefeated in four bouts and improved his season mark to 8-0. Cody Weitzel, Mike Brown, Zac Cornett and Sean Studer also registered two victories at the Jack Hancock Invitational.
