March 27, 2002 - Lady Sluggers Split with Regis

The Colorado School of Mines womens softball team split an afternoon Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader with the Regis University Rangers Tuesday at the Digger Dome inGolden. The Lady Diggers dropped the first game 0-1, but came back to grab the nightcap 7-3 to move their overall record to 10-16 and their RMAC record to 6-12, while Regis currently stands at 18-10 and 12-6, respectively.

Senior right-handed pitcher Carrie Wittkopf allowed one run on two hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts in seven innings of action in game one for the Orediggers. Sophomore Jennifer Hayashi grabbed the win for Regis, allowing only five hits with four strikeouts with no walks in seven innings.

Senior shortshop Reece Bollinger went two-for-three at the plate for Mines, while Stacia Budas RBI single in the top of the fourth inning allowed Rebekah Tippets to score the winning run for the Rangers.

Wittkopf improved her overall record to 9-14 in 2002 when she grabbed the Mines win in game two, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of action.

Junior center fielder Karrie Rein went four-for-four in the game, scoring two runs for the Orediggers, while Bollinger and sophomore second baseman Kim Kaiser tallied two RBI apiece in the Oredigger victory.

The Lady Diggers faced Nebraska-Kearney last weekend on the road. Mines went 1-3 against the Lopers, grabbing a 4-3 victory in game three. The win is the first time the Orediggers haveovercome UNK in CSM softball history.

Head coach Mark Roberts' Orediggers head to Denver Wednesday to face Regis University in another RMAC doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
