Phase behavior, chemical equilibrium, thermodynamic and transport properties of simple and complex fluids; adsorption and surface tension; metastable states; physical modeling and computer simulation

Research Description
My scientific carrier began at the High Temperature Institute of the Russian Academy of Science modeling shock waves in two-phase supersonic bubble structure flow. From that moment on I realized that prediction of complex phenomena and phase behavior in fluid systems is impossible without effective thermophysical property models. I therefore began developing such models based on critical point fluctuation theory. Using this, I developed a universal crossover approach for developing equations of state which incorporate scaling laws in the asymptotic critical region and transform into classical equation of states far away from the critical point.

In conjunction with these studies, I have developed a crossover model for thermal conductivity, binary diffusion coefficients, thermal-diffusion coefficients, and the thermal diffusion ratio of binary mixtures in and beyond the critical region.

I have also studied metastable states and fluid stability limits. My recent scientific interests relate to interfacial phenomena including the adsorption of fluids under critical and supercritical conditions. The study of complex fluids including polymers and polymers blends is also of strong interest; I have studied crossover behavior in dilute polymer solutions. This crossover theory has been tested against simulation data for various properties and we are currently extending this work to dense and moderately dense polymer solutions.
