Weather Stations for Mars

Clients: Bob Knecht (Colorado Space Grant Consortium)

Bob has been requested by the Colorado Space Grant Consortium to participate in the design and deployment strategy for weather stations on Mars. Students are request to develop a single weather station to be deployed as part of a network to collect data on Mars. Following research on data collection, teams need to identify types of equipment necessary to gather environmental conditions such as temperature, pressure, wind direction and speed, solar incidence, radiation and particulate concentration. The challenge comes from a need to keep the instrumentation package compact and self-contained. Teams also need to consider how to initialize operations and to establish satellite links for projecting data for analysis.
