Steps to Going Abroad

- Fill out an application for our office either by dropping by or online. This gets you in our database and lets us know that you are interested in studying abroad. We can then invite you to our events which include lunches and study abroad fairs.
- Decide where in the world you would like to go: Choose a place that you are interested in, but also offers course(s) that match what you need to take to stay on course at CSM. Our Office of International Programs has many different opportunities to visit all over the world. You can either attend an exchange school or a study overseas school: visit GE3 or our list of potential schools. Please stop by our office if you have any questions.
- Fill out a prior approval form and have it signed by your advisor. Be sure to attach course descriptions. We can help you choose which classes will transfer and fit into your flow chart. Also you can look at our database of courses to see what has transferred in the past.
- Get 2 letters of recommendations from faculty.
- Write a one-page essay on why you want to study overseas and why you would be a good candidate.
- Once we have received the forms from above we will give you the application to your selected university. This maybe the GE3 application. (Be sure to fill out all parts to this application and print out a copy of it before you submit it for our records.)
- The deadline for getting all of the above things done is March 1 for the fall semester or October 1 for the spring semester. This is subject to change depending on the GE3 deadline.
Also, keep in mind the two different types of programs we offer:
- An Exchange School is a school that we have a direct partnership with. If you choose to attend an exchange school you pay your fees and tuition to CSM as you would if you were a student here. Financial - aid applies to these schools.
- If you choose a study overseas school you will pay that institutions tuition and fees, a study abroad fee to OIP, and also your tech fee to the school. This insures that you still have a spot at CSM and that your credits earned abroad will transfer
