Books in the CSM Archive may also be available elsewhere at your convenience. Consider:

  • Finding another copy.
    • Catalyst: The CSM Library catalog.  Additional copies of books may be available in the Library's open collection.
    • Prospector: Colorado's regional library catalog. Identify materials from CSM and other regional libraries with collections on the mining history of Colorado and the Rocky Mountains.

Maps and documents in the CSM Archive may be available elsewhere at your convenience. Consider:

  • US Geological Survey (USGS) and Colorado Geological Survey publications. These agencies published on mining districts and economic geology in Colorado. Many of these publications include maps.
    • Catalyst: The CSM Library catalog. Copies of Archive items may be in the Library's open collections.
    • USGS Publications Warehouse: Includes USGS publications in e-format (an ongoing digitization project).
  • CSM Library Map Room: Includes links to sources of historical maps of Colorado, aerial photos, and satellite images.
  • CSM Government Publications, Selected Government Websites by Subject: Includes links to geology and mining resources.

Journals in the Archive may be available elsewhere at your convenience:

  • We ask that you use the microform or open collection copy of a CSM Archive journal if possible, for preservation reasons.
  • Journals in print or microform open collections, try:
    • Catalyst: The CSM Library catalog.
    • Prospector: Colorado's regional library catalog. Identify materials from CSM and other regional libraries with collections on the mining history of Colorado and the Rocky Mountains.
  • Electronic journals:  Scattered volumes of a few pre-1940s journals are openly accessible on the Web. Try:
    • Google Books: Google Books does contain scattered journal volumes. Examples include--

The contents of some historical mining journals can be searched before using the journal. Consumer warning: Some of the following resources included only selective contents,  for example only "feature articles," only articles on specific subjects (geology, engineering, etc.), or only certain years' worth of the journal.

Historical Colorado Newspapers

Colorado newspapers during the mining days of the state include information about local mining, miners, and life in the mining camps. Try:

Some of the Archive's photographs are accessible as digital images. Other organizations also have images of mining. Try: 
  • Colorado School of Mines Image Database: Includes images on mining from the collections of the Colorado School of Mines Arthur Lakes Library and the Leadville Mining Hall of Fame and Museum.
  • Colorado State Archives: Includes photograph collections and some digital images of Colorado, searchable through the Archives' website.

Ordering Copies from the Archive

Duplication (photocopies, digital copies) of Archive materials:

  • Self-service photocopying is unavailable.
  • To order copies from the Library, use the Request Form for Non-CSM Users on the Library's website.
    • This is a for-fee service. Current costs are available at Interlibrary Loan Fees.
    • Most requests are filled within 5 days. Rush requests for copies are available for an additional cost.
  • Copying is subject to the physical condition of the item. Fragile or endangered items (as determined by the Library) will not be copied.
  • Duplication in violation of copyright or duplicating large segments of a collection is prohibited.
  • You must obtain permission in advance to use your own duplicating equipment (camera, scanner, etc.) on Archive materials.
