1895 Colorado Map
Colorado Aerial Photographs Collection in the Map Room

The CSM Map Room has a large collection (34,743) of aerial photographs.  The coverage of these photos is limited to Colorado--no other states are collected.   Most were shot in the mid 1930's through the early 1950's for the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM).  CSM does have some unique photos from the early 1930's of the Front Range area take by the Lowry Field Photographers School.   Other than the Denver area, The Library has very few recent aerial photos.  

Recently, an index to the collection was created (it is shown below).  The index is arranged by county.  It indicates when the photographs were taken, if CSM owns the photos, indexes or both, scale (if known), and what other counties the photos cover.  Some of these items are listed in Catalyst; most are not.  In general, The Map Room has many more indexes without photos than it does indexes with photos.

The photographs do not circulate and are only accessible with the help of the Map Room staff.    For more information on aerial photograph collection, contact the
