| Introduction to the Indexes to the Map Sets in the Map Room | |
|
WARNING: THE INDEXES DO NOT COVER TO ALL THE MAPS IN THE MAP ROOM--ONLY THE SETS! In the Summer of 1997, the Map Room Indexes were created. These indexes were placed in white 3-ringed binders, and are available in the Map Room Reference Area next to the Map Room Office. These indexes are to TOPOGRAPHIC map sets unless otherwise noted on the index. All the sets are cataloged and available in Catalyst. If you cannot find maps of a particular country, look at maps of that continent. For example, there are no sets of Bulgaria, but there is a set of maps covering the Balkans, which can be found under "Europe." The call numbers are marked on each index. The "s," in "s250" stands for "scale" and the "250" stands for "1:250,000." In each country, the maps with the largest scale (the most detail) are first, followed by the smaller scale (less detailed) ones. Following topography are maps with other themes, like geology or land use. At the end of some countries are maps of cities. |
