Did You Know? Barron's selected Mines as a best buy in the ninth (2006) edition of its annual publication Best Buys in College Education. Colorado School of Mines is rated among the nation's top 100 values as selected by Kiplinger's Personal Finance. Colorado School of Mines was ranked as one of the Top Graduate Schools for 2007 by U.S. News and World Report. About half of 2006 incoming freshmen were in the top 10 percent of their high school class, with average ACT scores of 27 and average SAT scores of 1250. Mines has 18 intercollegiate athletic teams, more than any other Division II school in the State of Colorado. In addition, there are 23 club sports run by students. More than 75 percent of Mines students participate in the intramural and club sports program. Mines has more than 100 student clubs, including one of the largest student chapters of the Society of Women Engineers in the country. Ninety-four percent of Mines full-time faculty hold a doctoral degree, and one of every 10 professors holds an endowed chair. Mines was selected by the Colorado State Legislature as the state's first "exemplary institution" of public higher education due to its 'high degree of responsibility and capability with regard to its academic and administrative functions.'
