Minority Engineering Program (MEP) |
||||||||||
MEP
exists to graduate ethnic minority students by providing academic, cultural,
and professional development programs. New students begin with a one-and-a-half day retreat where current CSM minority students coach them on success strategies and work to build community and academic focus. A mentor program continues that focus and helps new students acclimate to campus. As mentors, upper-class students meet with freshmen to offer help and participate in social activities. And through the Exam Simulation Program, freshmen can take practice exams to make sure they're prepared for the real thing. Four student professional societies the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), Asian Student Association (ASA), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) coordinate with MEP to provide personal, cultural, and professional support, and help plan, create, and organize new programs for MEP. The Diverse programming of MEP extends from pre-college summer programs like PREP and SUMMET, to alumni barbeques at Homecoming. MEP helps to make the transition to college fun and exciting while providing a home away from home for new students. |
