Augustine to Speak at Mines

GOLDEN, Colo., Sept. 14, 2007 – Norman R. Augustine, retired chairman and chief executive officer of Lockheed Martin Corporation, will speak at Colorado School of Mines as the William H. Erickson Distinguished Lecturer on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., in Bunker Auditorium in the Green Center, 924 16 th St., Golden.

Augustine serves as chair of the National Academies Committee on Prospering in the Global Economy of the 21st Century; the organization which issued the report “Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future.”

“If America remains on the course it has been pursuing in recent years, the danger is very real that many of its citizens will be unable to compete for quality jobs in the evolving world employment market,” Augustine said. “A study by the National Academies, referred to as ‘the Gathering Storm' study, has proposed constructive actions which can be taken to produce a more favorable outcome. A number of these actions have now been supported in Congressional legislation.”
