| "The Bomb in My Garden" Author to Discuss Saddam Hussein's Secret Quest for Nuclear Weapons GOLDEN, Colo., May 10, 2007 -- Mahdi Obeidi, author of “The Bomb in My Garden,” will speak at a Colorado School of Mines Reunion 2007 Lecture Symposium on May 12 at 10:45 a.m. in the Green Center, 924 16th Street, on the Mines campus. Obeidi is a Mines graduate. A prominent figure in Saddam Hussein’s covert nuclear weapons program in Iraq before the first Gulf War, Obeidi had buried in his backyard the capacity to build uranium-enriching gas centrifuges. In the aftermath of the 2003 Iraq War, Obeidi voluntarily turned himself in to American Intelligence and revealed the nuclear secrets he had buried.
