annual blood drive GOLDEN, Colo., Feb. 27, 2007 – The Colorado School of Mines chapter of Kappa Sigma is hosting a blood drive from noon to 3:30 p.m. March 7 at the fraternity house, 1800 W. Campus Road. Event organizer Brian Hanks, a junior at Mines, said he hopes to expand on the annual drive's 30 or 40 participants. “It is an easy procedure and it only takes about 10 minutes,” Hanks said. “People should donate blood because it really does help save lives.” Hanks, a chemistry major and bioengineering and life sciences minor, said communities greatly benefit from blood drives. “I am really interested in medicine and seeing the beneficial use of donated blood in emergency room situations has made me want to put on this event,” Hanks said.
