| Mines to Host 53 Teams for State Colorado Science Olympiad Competition GOLDEN, Colo., April 19, 2007-Colorado School of Mines will host 53 middle and high school teams for the 23rd State Colorado Science Olympiad Competition April 21, with the competition beginning at 9 a.m., the final event ending at 3 p.m., and the award ceremony beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Volk Gymnasium, 1312 Illinois Street. Schedules and maps will be available all day in the atrium of the gymnasium. Approximately 700 students will compete, representing Colorado’s top teams selected from regional competitions in Ft. Collins and Colorado Springs on March 3. Teams of 15 students will test their knowledge of science concepts, process skills and science application in 40 events requiring an understanding of chemistry, physics, biology and earth science. Each event runs for an hour. Approximately 200 volunteers will help run and judge the events-from Sound of Music to Scrambler to Storm the Castle. The top high school and middle school team at the conclusion of the competition will advance to the national competition in Wichita, Kan., May 18.
