| Mines receives more than $80,000 in community support for Mobile Science Show program GOLDEN, Colo., December 19, 2007— Colorado School of Mines announced today it has received $81,500 in contributions to support its Mobile Science Show program, a K-12 educational outreach program that aims to improve teacher competency and student aptitude in the applied sciences. The Daniels Fund and The Denver Foundation renewed their leadership funding, allowing the program to reach more than 30 elementary classrooms in the greater Denver metro area with programs that increase student competency in science while giving teachers exciting new ways to combine science instruction with other subjects. The Jefferson Foundation, Shell Oil Company, IBM and the Kinder Morgan Foundation also provided generous grants that further the Mobile Science Show's mission of fostering an interactive, standards-based approach to K-12 science, mathematics and technology education. In addition to the classroom instruction, an integral part of the science training for teachers is hosted on campus during hands-on summer science workshops that demonstrate effective ways to integrate science into everyday instruction, as well as apply the scientific method for teaching new concepts. Sue Anne Berger, Mobile Science Show program director, created the outreach program in 1991 to enrich science education through hands-on teacher training and student instruction throughout the state of Colorado. "The Mobile Science Show is pleased to have the financial support of such important community organizations, all of which share our passion for providing quality science instruction to young people,” Berger said. “Parents understand the importance of science in today's world and students have a real enthusiasm for high-quality science instruction," said Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. "We are honored to support this program as it provides students access to high quality science instruction,” she added. For more information about Colorado School of Mines, visit www.mines.edu .
