Mines students to celebrate Safar-E-Days

GOLDEN, Colo., March 22, 2007 – Colorado School of Mines will celebrate safari-themed Engineers' Days (E-Days) March 29-31.

Some highlights of this year's event include:

The annual fireworks show at Brooks Field beginning at 9 p.m. March 29. (Cancelled due to weather -- rescheduled for May 5.)

  • The Ore Cart Pull on March 30. Students will make their annual trek from the intersection of Simms Street and Colfax Avenue in the morning to the steps of the state Capitol where Lt. Gov. Barbara O'Brien will read a Mines E-Day proclamation around noon.
  • Flogging Molly will perform at 7 p.m. March 30 in Steinhauer Fieldhouse. Tickets are $22 and available through www.ticketweb.com.
  • The Cardboard Canoe Race on Clear Creek will begin at 10:30 a.m. March 31. Students will build rafts out cardboard, duct tape and twine and hope their boat stays afloat through the race to the finish line.
