Scoggins to Moderate Town Hall Meeting on Energy

GOLDEN, Colo., May 18, 2007 How Colorado and the United States will meet growing energy needs in the future will be the topic of conversation at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, at a town hall meeting co-hosted by Colorado School of Mines and ConocoPhillips at the Sheraton Denver West Hotel, 360 Union Blvd., in Lakewood.

Coloradans will discuss the state's and nation's energy future as part of a Conversation on Energy, a public outreach program that invites attendees to ask questions and share their ideas on energy solutions that are secure, reliable, available and environmentally responsible.

ConocoPhillips' representatives and leaders from business and industry, renewable energy, and environmental and conservation initiatives will provide their views on topics including traditional oil and gas development and consumption, renewable fuels, alternative energy sources, and energy efficiency and conservation. Local and statewide business, community and industry associations will participate as partners for the meeting.

“Mines is committed to building a secure, sustainable energy future, so we are pleased to co-host this event with ConocoPhillips. We look forward to a lively discussion on this critical topic,” said Colorado School of Mines President Bill Scoggins.

In addition to Dr. Scoggins, featured panelists for Conversation on Energy Golden will include:

  • Dale Gardner, associate director, Renewable Fuels, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • Preston Gibson, president and CEO, Jefferson Economic Council
  • Will Coyne, land use advocate, Environment Colorado
  • Bob Ridge, vice president, health, safety and environment, ConocoPhillips
  • Merl Lindstrom, general manager, research and development, ConocoPhillips

The Denver area is one of 35 stops on ConocoPhillips' nationwide “listening tour.” The town hall meetings foster an open forum for citizens to express their opinions about energy issues and topics, as well as to gain feedback from local and national experts.
