Bicycles
A. Operation: Every person riding a bicycle on the CSM campus shall have all the rights and duties applicable to the driver of any other vehicle subject to this policy, and the traffic codes of the City of Golden and the State of Colorado. Said riders shall comply with the rules set forth in Section 221 and 1412, Model Traffic Code for Colorado Municipalities (most recent revision) when using the streets within the CSM campus.
B. Parking: Bicycles should be parked in and secured to the bicycle racks provided on the CSM campus. Parking a bicycle in a prohibited area may result in the removal and impoundment of the bicycle by the Department of Public Safety. The owner of said bicycle shall be responsible for any removal, storage, and disposal fees.
1. Parking bicycles in any stairwell is prohibited.
2. Parking bicycles inside any building hallway is prohibited.
3. Parking bicycles on any stairway is prohibited.
4. Attaching bicycles to trees, railings, signposts, or lampposts is prohibited.
5.Any bicycle left unsecured on campus shall be deemed abandoned and may be taken into custody for safe keeping by the Department of Public Safety.
6.Any bicycle observed to have been at any location on campus for over 24 hours, excepting the bicycle racks at the residence halls and housing areas, shall be deemed abandoned and may be taken into custody for safe-keeping by the Department of Public Safety.
7.If not claimed by the owner within 30 days of impoundment the Department of Public Safety may dispose of all impounded bicycles through donation to a charitable institution, sale to the public with proceeds going to the department, or conversion to departmental property for official use by the department.
C. Registration: Students, staff, and faculty members are encouraged to register the serial number or owner applied number of his/her bicycle with the Department of Public Safety as an aid to identification should the bicycle be lost of stolen.
