General Provisions

 A. CSM disclaims responsibility for any damage to or theft of vehicles parked on CSM property, or any articles left therein. No bailment is created by CSM through the granting of any parking or operating privileges on any property leased, owned, or otherwise controlled by CSM. It should be noted that parking on the CSM campus is a privilege, not a right.

B. CSM faculty, staff, students, and visitors are charged with the responsibility for knowledge of the provisions and regulations contained herein and shall be held responsible for any violations involving a vehicle in their possession or subject to their control.

C. Business Visitor Parking: Persons whose business requires them to be on CSM property shall display a CSM Temporary Parking Permit which shall be valid for a specified period. Temporary Business Visitor Permits issued by individual departments, may be valid for a period not to exceed 2 weeks, and are subject to other conditions printed on the permit.  Any situation requiring a temporary permit beyond 2 weeks shall be issued by and at the discretion of the Department of Public Safety.  Temporary permits are available free of charge from the Department of Public Safety and other CSM departmental offices.

D. All vehicles operated on the CSM campus must have valid state license plates and vehicle registration, either from Colorado or from the state of residence of the owner/operator.

E. Tampering with, or defacing, parking direction signs and devices or traffic control signs or devices WILL result in revocation of parking privileges on the CSM campus for a minimum of one full academic semester, and may result in criminal prosecution.

F. The operation and use of skateboards (motorized or non-motorized), scooters (except street legal motor scooters as allowed by state statute), and in-line skates is prohibited anywhere on the CSM campus including streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.

G. The parking of trailers of any type is prohibited on the CSM campus without prior permission from the Department of Public Safety. When permission is granted parking of trailers may be restricted to a specific site or area on campus.

H. In general students are allowed to have only one vehicle on campus at any one time. Students living in family housing with an adult may have a second vehicle on campus provided that it is properly registered with the Public Safety Department.

I. Persons who do not live on campus may not leave their vehicle on campus over night unless they have requested, and received permission from the Public Safety Department to do so and park in an area designated by the Department.

An exception to this section is that students and faculty who are away on school sanctioned activities may leave their vehicles legally parked on campus for up to three (3) nights without requesting permission. Any vehicles left unattended on campus for more than three nights must have permission from the Public Safety Department.
